Role Overview

As part of the Data Governance team, you will play a strategic and hands-on role in modernizing our enterprise data architecture. This position is critical to migrating our SQL Server data warehouse to Snowflake, while ensuring stability and business continuity for the legacy systems that will remain in production throughout the transition.

As a senior data engineer, you will design, implement, and optimize the full-stack data infrastructure - from Snowflake clusters setup to data ingestion, transformation and report migration. You will drive data governance frameworks aligned with enterprise cataloging, access control, sizing and monitoring Snowflake virtual warehouses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain end-to-end cloud-native pipelines that ingest data into ADLS and Snowflake, orchestrate data load using ADF, and design transformations with curated DBT models.
  • Setup and maintain DevOps pipelines committing CI/CD-driven deployments.
  • Apply dimensional modeling and schema design best practices to build performant, well-governed Snowflake marts consumed by BI and analytics, apply SDC Type 2 to support “point-in-time” reporting.
  • Optimize Snowflake compute (warehouse sizing, clustering, query performance) and dbt model performance (materializations, incremental strategies) for cost-efficient and fast pipelines.
  • Provide light-touch support for legacy on-premises SQL Server systems only as needed to keep them stable during the transition.
  • Define and enforce engineering standards for pipeline development: version control, code review, dbt testing, and CI/CD automation across ADF and dbt/Snowflake deployments.
  • Implement and promote data governance foundations, including data cataloging, lineage tracking, access control, data integrity checks and alerts; and quality monitoring (e.g. Snowflake Horizon, Microsoft Purview).
  • Work closely with project managers, QA, and other developers; provide support to business users and application developers.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Proven analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills with a focus on root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.

Knowledge & Experience

  • 6+ years of experience in cloud data warehousing, dimensional modeling and data integration solutions.
  • Strong production experience with Snowflake - virtual warehouses, Snowflake Scripting/stored procedures, Streams & Tasks, Time Travel, zero-copy cloning, and warehouse/query performance tuning.
  • Strong hands-on experience with dbt (dbt Core or dbt Cloud) - building and maintaining models, tests, documentation and CI/CD-driven deployments.
  • Experience with Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) and Azure Data Factory (ADF) for cloud-native data ingestion and orchestration.
  • Proficiency in Azure DevOps CI/CD, version control, and deployment automation.
  • Familiarity with data governance and cataloging tools - Snowflake Horizon, Microsoft Purview, or comparable third-party catalogs.
  • Strong SQL skills (ANSI SQL / Snowflake SQL) for building and tuning analytical queries at scale.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
