The Opportunity
Software Engineer II - VANCOUVER, CANADA
We are seeking a Software Engineer II to join our Portfolio Intelligence team. You will contribute to building the Insight Engine, a system that runs insights which use a combination of data science and LLMs, in close collaboration with senior engineers and data scientists. This role offers the opportunity to deepen your expertise in cloud-native engineering and agentic systems, while growing toward senior-level ownership and independence.
In this role, you will
Build and Maintain Agentic Cloud Services
Contribute to the development of scalable services and agentic capabilities on AWS, using C#. You’ll build and maintain both the engine that runs our insights and the systems that evaluate them, gaining hands-on experience designing highly available cloud services and helping guide the Insight Engine’s architecture as you tackle challenges like non-deterministic LLM output, eval quality, latency, and governance.
Bring Insights to Production
Work alongside data scientists to implement and iterate on insights, turning data science Python code and LLM-based logic into reliable production capabilities. Write evals while also building the tooling to run them and generate test data. Design the backend APIs and data models that serve insights to the application, working with technologies like PostgreSQL and Snowflake.
Grow Your Technical Expertise
Deepen your skills in cloud architecture, distributed systems, and building LLM-powered applications. Work with technologies like .NET Orleans and AWS Bedrock while increasing your proficiency with GenAI-powered development tools and workflows.
Collaborate Across the Team
Work closely with senior engineers, product managers, and data scientists to deliver on team objectives. Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and technical planning. Communicate effectively about your work and proactively seek input when navigating unfamiliar territory.
Own Production Operations
Embrace our "You Build It, You Run It" culture by participating in on-call rotations and taking ownership of the systems you help build. Respond to incidents, contribute to root cause analysis, and help improve monitoring and alerting for the platform. All members of the team participate in the rotation, and the team is available to support you when needed.
Who We Are Looking For
You are an engineer who has moved beyond entry-level work and is ready to take on more complex challenges. You can design and implement software components with guidance, and you're building judgment about when to move forward independently versus when to seek input. You're curious about how systems work at scale, comfortable with navigating ambiguity, and eager to deepen your expertise in cloud systems and LLM-powered insights.
You communicate clearly, collaborate well with teammates, and take pride in delivering quality work. You're comfortable asking questions and learning from feedback. You want to grow toward senior-level ownership and are looking for an environment that will support that trajectory.
What You'll Do
- 3-4 years of professional software development experience with exposure to complex software projects.
- Proficiency in C# (or a similar language such as Java) and SQL for application development and data processing. Experience with the .NET Orleans framework is beneficial but not required.
- Working knowledge of AWS services and cloud architecture, with experience building and maintaining cloud-based applications.
- Experience designing and building REST APIs.
- Familiarity with Python for working with data science code.
- Exposure to building applications with LLMs (for example, calling LLM APIs and prompt design), whether through work or personal projects.
- Experience with automated testing, version control, CI/CD, and code review practices.
- Familiarity with Docker and containerization concepts.
- Expected Salary: 100,000 -130,000 CAD
What You'll Bring
- Experience writing evals (and building systems to perform them) and building agentic product capabilities.
- Experience with on-call rotations and production operations in a team-owned environment.
- Experience with event-based communications and gRPC API development.
- Interest in Generative AI and experience using AI-powered coding assistants (GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) for development productivity.
- Experience with observability tools (e.g. CloudWatch, Prometheus/Grafana, DataDog) for monitoring and debugging.
Benefits at Planview
At Planview, you’ll join our global team and culture which reflects the vibrant communities in which our employees live and work. To support you at Planview, you will enjoy:
