Position Type: Contract / Project-Based.
Location: On-site – St. Marys, ON.
About Us
Platinum Trailers is a premier Canadian manufacturer specializing in high-quality, lightweight, all-welded aluminum grain and bulk commodity trailers. Located in St. Marys, Ontario, our facility handles everything from initial laser cutting and sheet metal fabrication to robotic welding, custom mechanical assembly, and final component outfitting. To support our growth, automation integrations, and commitment to safety, we are seeking an experienced technical writer or operations professional to build a robust, highly visual library of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for our shop floor.
The Role
This is a hands-on, on-site role. You will step onto our busy production floor, collaborating directly with our mechanical designers, experienced fabricators, and assembly team. Your goal is to map out complex physical manufacturing processes and turn them into crystal-clear instructions that maximize shop floor efficiency, guarantee consistent weld quality, and ensure the highest safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
All Equip is a diverse and equal-opportunity employer.
Please Advise Our Office If Workplace Accommodations Are Required.
Please submit your resume along with a short sample of a previous manufacturing SOP or process guide you have created.

Your goal is to map out complex physical manufacturing processes and turn them into crystal-clear instructions that maximize shop floor efficiency, guarantee consistent weld quality, and ensure the highest safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Shop Floor Observation: Spend time on the production floor shadowing fabricators and assemblers to capture current assembly methods and workflows.
- Draft Custom SOPs: Write step-by-step documentation for aluminum trailer production, including heavy machinery operation (laser cutting, brake presses), custom component fitting, wiring, and robotic welding workflows.
- Visual Documentation: Capture clear reference photos and process diagrams directly at the workstations to integrate visual aids for the assembly team.
- Standardize Safety: Document critical equipment lockout/tagout procedures, safety compliance steps, and fit-up quality control metrics.
- Validate and Refine: Run live trial runs of the written SOPs with production labourers to test for clarity and eliminate ambiguity before final sign-off.
- Industrial Manufacturing Background: Proven experience writing technical documentation or SOPs specifically for heavy-duty manufacturing, welding, steel/aluminum fabrication, or automotive assembly.
- Technical Familiarity: A solid understanding of fabrication processes (cutting, forming, welding) and basic mechanical drawings is highly preferred.
- Clarity and Visual Focus: Exceptional ability to translate fast-moving physical labour tasks into structured, easy-to-follow, visual instructions.
- People Skills: Strong communication skills to comfortably connect and collaborate with shop floor labourers, production managers, and engineering teams alike.
