Original job description

Junior / Intermediate Java Developer (Curam Training)

Location: Remote in Canada or Ottawa (hybrid required)

Duration: Permanent

Security Clearance: Must have Reliability clearance in place

Who We Are

PLATO is Canada’s largest Indigenous-owned software testing and technology services company. For nearly 30 years, our expert teams have helped our clients deliver reliable products that users enjoy interacting with.

Our 100% Canada‑based team brings deep experience in QA, software testing, and IT services, along with a shared commitment to collaboration, mentorship, and continuous improvement. We’re a team that shows up for each other, whether that’s tackling complex client challenges or helping colleagues grow through coaching and knowledge‑sharing.

As Canada’s largest Indigenous‑owned software testing company, we’re proud of our roots and our mission to build a stronger, more inclusive technology workforce. At the same time, we warmly welcome applicants of all backgrounds and experiences who are passionate about quality, teamwork, and making an impact.

What you will do:

Are you an ambitious Java Developer looking to break into the high-impact world of public sector enterprise software? We are offering a rare, lucrative pathway to accelerate your career by mastering Cúram, one of the most sought-after skill sets in Ottawa.

Work in cross functional agile scrum team to implement Curam product features. Responsible for Curam technical design, creating user stories, implementing the design, configuring Curam, customizing Curam, deploying code, unit testing and bug fix. Work alongside Curam BA's, UI/UX designers, experience designers, and test automation engineers to implement product features.

You don’t need prior Cúram experience. We bring the training; you bring the core Java foundational skills.

The Opportunity

Your journey begins with an intensive, paid 2-week Cúram training program led by senior specialists. Upon successfully completing the course, you will immediately roll onto a large multi-year, government project, applying your new skills to build and modernize digital services that impact citizens.

Because Cúram specialists are in exceptionally high demand and short supply globally, this role offers an unparalleled chance to upgrade your technical resume, boost your market value, and secure long-term career stability.

What You Need:

2+ years of experience working with Java, J2EE, and web technologies.
Knowledge of front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
Knowledge of SQL and database management systems.
Experience with integration technologies such as SOAP and REST web services.
Familiarity with modern JavaScript frameworks (ReactJS, Angular, NodeJS).
Experience with government or public sector client engagements.
Government of Canada Reliability (or higher) security clearance is mandatory.

Work With Us

At PLATO, we believe that great work happens when people feel supported, connected, and challenged in the right ways. You’ll be part of a collaborative environment where experienced professionals share knowledge, mentor others, and contribute to solving complex, real‑world client projects.

We are committed to inclusive hiring practices and encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including women, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and Indigenous peoples. If you require accommodation at any stage of the recruitment process, we’re here to support you.

PLATO respectfully acknowledges that we operate on treaty territories, unceded First Nations and Inuit territories, and within Métis homelands. We honour the long history of these lands and actively work toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non‑Indigenous peoples on Turtle Island.
