Job Description:
Data Science Intern Co-op
Production machine learning models are only as good as the platform keeping them healthy, and we need someone who wants to build the internal tools, observability, and debugging systems that keep our models reliable in production.
What You'll Be Doing
Working alongside data scientists, ML engineers, and data engineers under the guidance of the Senior Manager of Data Science, you will build and ship the developer tools and observability systems that keep our production machine learning models running reliably. You will spend your days writing clean Python and SQL on AWS, tracking pipeline health and data quality, and flagging performance anomalies before they ever reach our partners. AI-assisted diagnostics and failure summarization tools accelerate how you trace pipeline bugs, leaving you with more room to design robust monitoring solutions and test their impact directly with the team. Before your term ends, the utilities and dashboards you deliver will be in the hands of the data science team, serving as part of their daily production workflow.
The Stack
Python · SQL · PyTorch · scikit-learn · AWS (SageMaker, S3, CloudWatch) · Git
What You Bring
- You are currently enrolled in a university co-op program in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or a related quantitative discipline, with an active work term available.
- You write clean, functional Python and SQL, with coursework or project experience in machine learning and frameworks like PyTorch or scikit-learn, backed by disciplined Git habits.
- You have a relentless curiosity for getting under the hood of systems to figure out why pipelines break, with an active interest in MLOps, model observability, and cloud platforms like AWS.
- You explain technical findings clearly and concisely, translating complex failure root causes, data discrepancies, and platform metrics into insights that technical and non-technical stakeholders easily understand.
- When it comes to AI, you have already built workflows or tools using LLMs to write code, automate repetitive tasks, or analyze data, pairing fast generation with the sharp judgment needed to catch hallucinations and verify results before shipping.
