About Us

pointA (pointa.ca) is a non-profit that improves access to sustainable transportation options through tailored, community-focused programming. We aim to create a future in which sustainable transportation is the preferred choice, fostering access to opportunity, wellness, and climate action. In collaboration with our funders, partners, and clients, we facilitate transportation demand management (TDM) programs to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles on the road and to encourage commuters to try more sustainable modes of transportation such as cycling, walking, and public transportation.

Our core activities include developing, launching, and monitoring TDM programs for medium- to large- sized organizations primarily through the Smart Commute, Best Workplaces for Commuters, and shuttle programs and as we grow across Canada, we are expanding our reach from employees and students to children and youth and seniors.

Summary of Position

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Marketing and Communications Manager leads pointA’s integrated marketing, design, and communications function. This hands-on role aligns pointA’s brand and content with the organization’s strategic goals, strengthens lead generation, and client engagement at the pace required by a fast-moving organization.

Marketing efforts build awareness, generate qualified leads, and move prospective clients through the sales funnel. Communications efforts keep clients, stakeholders, residents within our service areas, and target audiences informed about pointA’s work and impact while promoting transportation demand management as a way to reduce road congestion.

You will lead all aspects of marketing and communications at pointA while remaining a hands-on individual contributor. You bring professional graphic design and production expertise, strong copywriting and editing skills, practical knowledge of demand generation and the sales funnel, and the ability to build productive working relationships across the organization. You can take a deliverable from initial brief to final copy and design with minimal guidance from the Programs team.

Approximately 70–75% of this role is hands-on production for marketing and business development functions. The Manager personally researches, writes, edits, designs, and finalizes marketing and communications materials, while the remaining time is focused on planning, analysis, collaboration, vendor coordination, and oversight of occasional interns, volunteers, and contractors.

You are:

A qualified, hands-on graphic designer with relevant education or equivalent professional experience and a portfolio demonstrating strong visual design, layout, typography, accessibility, and production skills. You can interpret and apply brand guidelines across social media, websites, newsletters, one-pagers, presentation decks, and print materials. Marketing experience, including strategy execution is a strong asset.
A resourceful self-starter who can independently research, write, edit, design, and finalize accurate, on-brand deliverables under competing priorities and short deadlines. You are comfortable producing straightforward one-pagers, digital assets, and other priority materials within one business day – and, when required, within hours – without depending on Program Managers to draft the copy.
Highly proficient in Canva. You have professional experience with Adobe Creative Cloud as evidence of a well-developed design practice. Experience with WordPress is an asset, but candidates with strong transferable skills may learn these platforms on the job.
Analytical and curious. You have some experience tracking campaign performance and translating analytics data into actionable recommendations. You research and stay informed about marketing trends and opportunities.
A collaborative relationship builder with strong writing, communication, presentation, interpersonal, and client service skills. You proactively establish trust and effective ways of working with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders across different programs, including people who do not report to you or with whom you have not previously worked.
A growth mindset, and a strong passion for making a difference and helping people.

What a week could look like

You can expect that a typical week could involve the following:

70% hands-on marketing production:

Meet with the Business Development Manager and Programs team to identify and design brand coherent marketing materials for all stages of the pointA sales funnel for all programs and service areas.
Independently manage the briefing, research, copywriting, editing, design, production, approval, and distribution of communications and marketing materials, including social media assets, quarterly newsletters, one-pagers, graphics, print materials, promotional messaging, and internal and external presentations. Deliver accurate, accessible, on-brand work within agreed timelines, including same-day turnaround for straightforward priority requests. Tools may include Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, HubSpot, and Canva.
Attends weekly team and programs meetings and provide actionable updates and insights on marketing strategy execution that informs business development and programs execution.

15% communications work:

Execute the day-to-day strategy, content planning, copywriting, publishing, optimization, and quality control for pointA’s WordPress websites and social media channels, including LinkedIn and Instagram. Maintain an editorial calendar, respond quickly to relevant developments, keep information current and accessible, and use channel performance data to improve content and calls to action.
Oversee and write blog posts and website case studies, facilitate team brainstorming for new topics, coordinate with volunteer blog writers, write and edit blog post submissions, track and measure results according to pointA KPI dashboard.
Use Zoho Social to monitor relevant news, policy developments, social media conversations, market activity, and trends within transportation demand management and the Smart Commute program. Distill significant developments into timely recommendations and content opportunities for the team, and use them to position pointA as a credible and relevant organization addressing congestion and related community goals.

15% reporting and administration:

Lead cross-functional marketing and communications projects by setting clear briefs, roles, milestones, service standards, approval processes, and decision points. Build practical working relationships across the team, secure input without transferring ownership of the work, identify and remove bottlenecks, and maintain documented processes that support timely, high-quality delivery.
Use Zoho CRM, dashboards, and analytics together with Microsoft Copilot to monitor marketing activity, streamline production and analysis, identify actionable insights, and implement measurable improvements to content and lead-generation efforts.
Attends client outreaches as needed to support the programs team.

As needed:

Provide clear direction, workplans, feedback, and development support to occasional interns, volunteers, and contractors. This role has no permanent direct reports and remains primarily responsible for hands-on production rather than ongoing staff management.
Provide support to the Board and funders as needed, under direction of Executive Director.

Hybrid Work Policy
