Original job description

Product & Engineering | Toronto or Waterloo, hybrid | 3 to 5 years of experience | Reports to the COO

No cameras. Nothing to wear. Just peace of mind.

Pontosense builds radar sensing technology that helps older adults live safer, longer and better in their own homes. Our technology is deployed in 24 countries. Silvie, our consumer product, is bringing this technology directly to families, alongside leading home care brands and telecom partners.

One app. Every family. That's the job.

Why Now

The Silvie app is how families set up their sensors, stay connected with loved ones, and know that help is there when it matters. We are building an experience that makes sophisticated technology feel effortless.

Most safety products sell fear. Our app should feel like relief.

We're looking for a Product Engineer who loves building great software, cares about how people experience it, and is excited to push the boundaries of what's possible with AI. You'll work directly with our Senior Product Manager and engineering team to bring that experience to life.

The Role

This is more than a traditional mobile development role. You'll build iOS and Android applications, contribute to UX and UI decisions, and help turn complex technology into simple, intuitive experiences. You'll have room to experiment, challenge assumptions and bring your own ideas to the table. AI tools are a natural part of how you work, not an occasional shortcut.

This is a building role. We care about what you create, not just the code you write.

What You'll Do

Build and improve iOS and Android applications using React Native and TypeScript.
Work closely with our Senior Product Manager to turn product ideas into intuitive, polished mobile experiences.
Contribute to UX and UI discussions, interactions and usability improvements.
Prototype, develop, test and ship features with speed and quality.
Use AI tools like ChatGPT, Codex, Claude Code and Cursor to build smarter and faster.
Continuously improve app performance, reliability and user experience.

What Makes This Interesting

Two users, different needs: build experiences that reassure families while respecting older adults' independence and privacy.
Hardware meets software: bring together radar sensing, connected devices and mobile experiences.
Complex technology, simple UX: make sophisticated technology feel intuitive to everyday users.
Real-world consequences: build reliable experiences that families can trust when it matters most.

Technical Requirements

Must have

React Native and TypeScript: Roughly 3 to 5 years of software development experience, including production React Native apps shipped to the App Store or Google Play.
Mobile development fundamentals: A solid grasp of building and releasing iOS and Android apps, including navigation, state management and API integration.
UX and UI skills: A strong eye for design, with the ability to build polished, responsive and accessible interfaces, work from Figma designs and contribute ideas to how the product looks, feels and works.

Nice to have

Device connectivity: Bluetooth Low Energy, IoT or connected-device onboarding and pairing flows.
Native and cross-platform depth: Native module integration (Swift or Kotlin), or Flutter as a second cross-platform framework.
Quality and delivery: Automated testing, CI/CD and release tooling, and crash and performance monitoring.
Design and product depth: Figma and design-system experience, or building AI-powered features into a consumer app.
Domain: HealthTech, eldercare, smart-home or other consumer products.

This Is for You If

You love AI tools and are constantly experimenting with new ways to build faster and better.
You enjoy turning ideas into working prototypes and real products.
You're curious, proactive and comfortable challenging ideas constructively.
You care about solving real user problems, not just completing tickets.

How We Work

Build it right, then make it better.

We value people who are curious, hands-on and willing to experiment. Great products come from strong collaboration, fast learning and a real understanding of users. AI is changing how software gets built, and we want people who are excited to be part of that change.

Real impact. There is more room to make a difference here than at a company ten times our size.

Why Join Pontosense

Build something that matters: help families across North America feel safer and more connected.
Work on fascinating technology: radar sensing, AI, connected devices and real-time data, all coming together in one consumer experience.
Direct access to leadership: work closely with our Senior Product Manager and leadership team. No layers.
AI-first mindset: experiment with emerging AI tools and modern development workflows.
Real ownership, real impact: your ideas will shape products used by real families.
Opportunity for equity: share in the growth of what we're building.
A sensor for your parents, on us: experience the product and share the peace of mind.
Rest well, it's part of the job: health, dental and vision benefits. Hybrid in Toronto or Waterloo.

How to Apply

Show us what you've built. A resume alone isn't enough.

Your resume, plus links to one or two apps, features or projects you're proud of: live products, App Store or Play Store links, GitHub or demos.
A short note on what you personally built in each one.
A few lines on this: how has AI changed the way you build software? What worked, and what didn't?

Applications without examples of your work won't move forward. We care more about what you can build, how you think and how you learn than a perfect resume.

Our Commitment

At Pontosense, we are committed to creating a workplace that is inclusive and accessible to all. We value diversity and believe that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to succeed.

If you have a disability or special need that requires accommodation during the hiring process, please let us know. We will work with you to make the necessary accommodations to ensure a fair and positive experience for all applicants.

We strive to provide accessible communication and technology for our employees and customers and always look for ways to improve. If you have any feedback or suggestions on how we can improve accessibility in our workplace, please don't hesitate to contact us.

We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and welcome candidates from all backgrounds to apply for open positions at our company.
