Original job description
Toronto or Waterloo, hybrid | Full-time | Reports to the Chief Commercial Officer
Lead the supply chain at a fast-growing senior care technology company shipping hardware to 24 countries, from the factory floor to the second life of every sensor.
The company
We went from a lab in Waterloo to 24 countries in five years. Our sensors detect falls and track sleep, health and wellness, with no cameras, wearables or pendants. Families get peace of mind. Older adults keep their independence. Our CTO, Dr. Yihong Qi, holds 680 patents, and the next few hundred get built here.
Why now
We are scaling. One of the largest deals in our history is in delivery, our consumer product launches in January, and volumes are about to step up across both businesses. We need a leader who has scaled a hardware supply chain before, and who can turn returns and refurbishment into a real advantage on cost and sustainability.
The role
This is the senior supply chain seat at Pontosense. You own the end-to-end strategy: manufacturing partners in five countries, logistics across Canada and the US, inventory and working capital, and a refurbishment programme that gives every returned sensor a second life. You build and lead the team that runs it day to day. You work directly with the CCO, engineering, finance and our manufacturing partners, and you sit in the room where volume and launch decisions get made.
What you'll own
- Supply strategy: which partners build what, where, and on what terms, with a second source for anything that can stop a deal
- Supplier relationships and negotiation: cost, quality, lead times and capacity, reviewed and improved every quarter
- Refurbishment and circularity: the strategy, economics and quality standards for repairing, regrading and redeploying returned sensors at scale
- Planning for two businesses: B2B deployments in the thousands and consumer orders one at a time, from one plan
- Inventory and working capital: the right stock in the right node, with finance trusting the numbers
- Quality: incoming inspection, supplier quality and field failure data that feeds back to engineering
- The team: hiring, coaching and building the supply chain function as we double
What year one looks like
Supply never limits a deal or the launch. Unit cost is down and supplier performance is measured. The refurbishment programme runs at scale with known recovery rates and cost. The team has clear owners, and the CCO and finance plan from your numbers.
How we work
- Build it right, then make it better. People's safety rides on what we ship, so we test hard and never settle for good enough.
- Say it as it is. Kind and direct, at every level, including the CEO.
- Real impact. There is more room to make a difference here than at a company ten times our size.
- Do what you said. Trust is built on follow-through, and we return it with real ownership.
- Hard, and worth it. What we build keeps someone's parent safe at home. Rest well, it's part of the job.
This is for you if
- You have scaled a hardware supply chain before and want to do it again
- You want the mission to matter and the pace to be real
- You still get your hands dirty when the problem needs it
This isn't for you if
- You want a large team and a mature system on day one
- You prefer advising on supply chain to owning it
You'll thrive here if
- You have led supply chain or operations for a connected hardware, electronics or medical device company, ideally through a step-change in volume
- You have built or scaled a refurbishment, repair or circular programme, and know its economics
- You have negotiated with contract manufacturers across borders, including in Asia
- You have built and led a team, not only inherited one
- You make calls with incomplete data and explain them plainly to finance and sales
You don't need to check every box. If this sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you.
Where this goes
As we scale, this role grows into leading Operations across manufacturing, logistics and service.
What you get
- A sensor for your parents, on us
- Direct access to the leadership team. No layers.
- Fair pay, with the opportunity for equity
- Impact decides your pay and your path, not tenure
- Hybrid in Toronto or Waterloo, remote if that's where you do your best work
- Health, dental and vision benefits
The details
- Pay: $150,000 to $190,000 CAD base salary
- This is a new role, created to grow the team, not a backfill
- How we hire: typically an initial interview, a short case, and a final interview in person with our CEO and members of the team. We may adjust this depending on the role
- We leverage AI tools in our hiring process, but prioritize human input and manual review
Our Commitment
At Pontosense, we are committed to creating a workplace that is inclusive and accessible to all. We value diversity and believe that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to succeed.
