Original job description

ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER II

Location: Toronto

Who We Are:

We design places where people love to be together.

Populous is a global design firm that began with a singular focus: to draw people together around the things they love, through experiences that capture all the senses, amplifying the atmosphere of excitement and pure joy shared in human moments.

We’ve designed and delivered some of the world's most memorable civic, sports and entertainment buildings, from iconic stadia to ground-breaking live music venues. Populous is where architects and designers of all kinds create moments bigger than ourselves. We offer the best of both worlds: the resources and impact of the design giants and the tightly knit atmosphere and growth opportunities of smaller firms.

What We Offer:

Professional & Personal Development Programs + Summer Hours + Hybrid Schedule + Paid Architect Licensure & Certifications Exams + Wedding Pay + Charitable Match Program

Who We Are Looking For:

We’re looking for an Architectural Designer with 3-6 years of experience to support the conceptual development and creation of drawings and design materials for a diverse range of public assembly building types including sports venues, convention centers, community buildings and transportation facilities.

What Your Day Could Consist Of:

Supporting the development of design solutions from master planning and concept design through to construction documents.
Assisting in the creation of conceptual drawings, diagrams, digital models and visual imagery to support design ideas.
Producing diagrams, digital models, and other production materials according to industry standards and technical requirements.
Contributing to the preparation of construction details in accordance with project specifications.
Preparing presentation materials and contributing to project interviews and design presentations.
Participating in collaborative critiques to help refine early-phase design concepts.
Under the guidance of experienced designers and consultants, assisting in coordinating project documents and models.
Conducting research on precedents, materials and design solutions to inform project development and enhance project outcomes.

Requirements For Success:

Proven skill in creative and innovative design thinking, collaborative problem-solving, architectural production, spatial and environmental design, story development and delivering exceptional design solutions.
Understanding of architectural design and construction principles, with a willingness to grow knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly and accurately share design ideas.
Strong sketching and freehand drawing skills, capable of producing quick and impactful sketches to effectively communicate and sell design concepts.
Familiarity with Revit, Bluebeam and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
Working knowledge of 3D modeling software such as 3DS Max, SketchUp and Maxwell Render.
Highly self-motivated and capable of thriving in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team.

Essential Qualifications:

Required:

Professional Degree in Architecture (B. Arch or M. Arch) from an accredited program.
0-3 years of professional architecture experience.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in architecture is preferred.
Fluency in English and French, both oral and written, is preferred, as this position may involve daily communications in English and French with clients, consultants, and project teams located in Quebec and other locations.
