Original job description

Potentia Human Resources is proud to partner with Mario's Towing Ltd. in the recruitment of an Accounts Receivable Specialist to join their accounting team at their Kelowna head office.

Mario's Towing is one of British Columbia's most respected towing and recovery companies, proudly serving customers throughout the Okanagan for decades. Known for exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and innovation, the company operates a fleet of more than 100 trucks, provides 24/7/365 dispatch services, and was the first towing company in Canada to introduce a hybrid deck truck.

Behind the scenes is a close-knit team that genuinely enjoys working together. Mario's offers a relaxed, family-oriented workplace where employees support one another, celebrate milestones together, and build long-term careers. With an experienced accounting team and a collaborative approach to work, it's an environment where you can ask questions, learn from others, and develop your skills.

The Opportunity

Mario's Towing is looking for an organized, adaptable Accounts Receivable Specialist to join its accounting team. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you'll play an important role in keeping the company's financial operations running smoothly by processing customer invoices and payments, maintaining account records, and investigating billing discrepancies.

This is a high-volume, fast-paced role where priorities can change throughout the day. You might be working through a large batch of invoices one moment and responding to a customer calling to make a payment the next. Success in this position requires the ability to switch gears quickly, manage competing priorities, and return to tasks without losing track of the details. With numerous invoices to process in a day, accuracy and efficiency are equally important.

You don't need to know every system or process on day one. The team can provide training and support, but you'll need some foundational accounting or bookkeeping knowledge, strong computer skills, and the confidence to keep things moving in a busy environment. If you enjoy staying organized, solving problems, and having a full day where there's always something to do, this is an opportunity to grow your skills with an established local company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process customer invoices accurately and in a timely manner;
  • Record and apply customer payments, including cheques, EFTs, and credit cards;
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances;
  • Investigate and resolve invoice, payment, and account discrepancies;
  • Work with the dispatch team to track down missing or incomplete service information;
  • Maintain accurate customer account records and supporting documentation;
  • Reconcile invoice and payment information between accounting systems;
  • Assist with month-end accounts receivable reconciliation and reporting;
  • Respond to customer payment inquiries and help resolve account-related questions;
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure accurate billing and timely payment processing;
  • Provide general accounts receivable and accounting administrative support as needed.

Requirements

What You Bring

  • Some experience in accounts receivable, bookkeeping, accounting administration, or a related role;
  • A basic understanding of invoicing, payment processing, and account reconciliation;
  • The ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment, including processing large numbers of transactions;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities throughout the day;
  • The ability to switch between tasks quickly, respond to interruptions, and pick up where you left off;
  • A high level of attention to detail, even when working under time pressure;
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to investigating discrepancies and resolving issues;
  • Clear communication skills and a professional, customer-focused approach;
  • Confidence using computers and the ability to learn new software and systems;
  • A collaborative attitude and willingness to ask questions, take feedback, and learn;
  • Sage experience is an asset, but not required;
  • Collections experience is an asset, but not required.

Mario's Towing offers a casual, family-oriented workplace where people support one another and take pride in their work. You'll have the opportunity to learn from an experienced accounting team, receive support as you get comfortable with the company's systems and processes, and build your skills in a stable, growing organization with a strong reputation in the community.
