We are Premier Marine Insurance Group (West) Inc. and Premier Canada Assurance Managers Ltd., a Canadian Managing Underwriting Agency that has been writing specialty lines for domestic and Lloyd's insurers since 1989. A leader in the Specialty Insurance industry, 100% Canadian owned. Our broad product shelf offers niche solutions for our brokers and advisors. Our partners count on us for quick, knowledgeable answers, and our carriers trust us to look after the authority they have given us.
Role Overview:
We are looking for a Manager, Processing, to lead the day-to-day work of our Processing Team. You'll make sure new business, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, policy issuance, invoicing and related documentation are completed accurately and on time. You'll give the team clear priorities, build consistent ways of working and partner closely with Underwriting, Finance and other business teams to keep work moving and service standards high.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You will coach and develop employees, balance workloads, monitor quality and turnaround times, resolve processing issues and identify practical ways to improve our workflows. Your leadership will help our underwriters serve brokers effectively and support the overall strength of our underwriting operation.
Key Responsibilities:
Leading our people
- Lead, coach and support the Processing Team, creating a collaborative, accountable and service-focused environment.
- Set day-to-day priorities, allocate work and adjust coverage so service expectations are consistently achieved.
- Support employee onboarding, training and ongoing development, and provide clear, regular feedback.
- Identify team training needs and build technical knowledge, confidence and consistency.
- Plan coverage for peak periods and employee absences so essential work continues without disruption.
Running the processing operation
- Oversee the accurate and timely processing of new business, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, policy issuance, invoicing and related documentation.
- Make sure underwriting information and supporting documentation are complete, accurate and properly maintained.
- Monitor daily workflow, transaction volumes and outstanding work, and address backlogs or service issues promptly.
- Act as an escalation point for complex processing, documentation and service matters.
- Work closely with Underwriters to align processing support with underwriting priorities and broker needs.
- Partner with Finance to resolve invoicing, premium and transactional discrepancies.
Quality, service and continuous improvement
- Establish and maintain clear, consistent processing standards, procedures and service expectations.
- Monitor accuracy, productivity, turnaround times, outstanding work, rework and error trends.
- Identify recurring errors, bottlenecks and workflow challenges, and put practical corrective actions in place.
- Develop quality-control measures that improve consistency and reduce rework.
- Look for opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency.
- Support the implementation and adoption of system, workflow and process changes.
Performance reporting and collaboration
- Develop and monitor operational measures that provide clear visibility into workload, quality and team performance.
- Provide management with regular updates and useful insights on volumes, service levels, backlogs, accuracy and resource needs.
- Build strong working relationships with Underwriting, Finance and other internal partners.
- Communicate procedural, workflow and system changes clearly to the team.
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives that affect underwriting operations and service delivery.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of progressive experience in Canadian property and casualty insurance, preferably in processing, underwriting support, policy administration or a similar operational role.
- Experience leading, supervising or providing day-to-day direction to employees.
- Strong knowledge of insurance policy administration and processing, including new business, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, policy issuance and related documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and a clear commitment to accuracy, quality and timely service.
- Strong organizational and workload-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach to problem solving.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to work effectively with insurance policy administration and underwriting systems.
Business Expertise:
