Original job description
Prime Freight is a Montreal-based international freight forwarder, founded in 1991. We move cargo by ocean, air and road for Canadian retailers and importers, mostly between Asia and North America, using our own technology platform and a small, close-knit team.
We are looking for a sharp, organized person to own our accounts payable and receivable. You will be the go-to person for every dollar coming in and going out, in both CAD and USD.
What you will do
- Run our weekly EFT payments to ocean carriers, trucking companies and overseas agents, and send remittance details
- Enter and validate vendor invoices that arrive in our AP inbox
- Reconcile statements of account from vendors and overseas agents and resolve discrepancies
- Follow up with customers on open CAD and USD invoices, secure payment dates and handle credit memos
- Record deposits and apply customer payments in QuickBooks Online
- Prepare the weekly AR aging report for management, flagging accounts past 30 days
- Coordinate USD/CAD conversions with our foreign exchange provider
- Support month-end: bank reconciliations and backup for our external accountants
What you bring
- DEC in Accounting and Management Techniques, AEC in accounting, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years in accounts payable and receivable, ideally in freight forwarding, logistics, customs brokerage or import/export
- Solid QuickBooks Online and Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP or VLOOKUP)
- Comfort with multi-currency transactions (CAD and USD) and sales taxes (GST/QST)
- French and English, spoken and written
- Organized and precise, and able to chase a customer for payment firmly and politely
Why English is required
Much of this role is written and phone contact with ocean carriers, agents in Asia and customers outside Quebec who do not work in French.
What we offer
- $52,000 to $62,000 per year, based on experience
- Group insurance
- Two remote work days per month
- A small team where your work has real impact, with direct access to leadership
