Ocean Import Operations Coordinator

Prime Freight is a Montreal-based international freight forwarder, founded in 1991. We bring containers in by ocean, air and road for Canadian retailers and importers, mostly from Asia, using our own technology platform and a small, close-knit team.

We are looking for a resourceful coordinator to own our import containers from booking to final delivery. Our platform sends the routine shipment updates automatically, so you can focus on what matters: solving problems before they get expensive.

What you will do

• Confirm bookings and space with ocean carriers and our origin agents

• Track containers by sea and rail to Montreal: ETAs, transshipments, rail moves and last free days

• Act fast to avoid storage, demurrage and detention charges

• Follow customs release with brokers and send them cargo control numbers and documents

• Manage original bills of lading and telex releases

• Issue delivery orders to trucking partners, book warehouse appointments and collect proofs of delivery

• Keep customers informed proactively, especially when there is a delay or a problem

• Enter carrier and trucking invoices in our platform for approval and flag extra charges for billing

What you bring

• 1 to 3 years in ocean import operations at a freight forwarder, customs broker or an importer's logistics team (or a logistics diploma and plenty of drive)

• A solid grasp of container shipping: bills of lading (OBL, HBL, telex release), cargo control numbers, free time, demurrage and detention, Incoterms

• The ability to follow dozens of containers at once without losing track of any

• Comfort with Excel and web-based systems; CargoWise or a similar system, or a CIFFA certificate, is an asset

• French and English, spoken and written

• Calm under pressure, with a real service mindset

Why English is required

Ocean carriers, our origin agents in Asia, US ports and many customers and truckers work in English, in writing and by phone, every day.
