POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Indigenous Relations is responsible for developing, strengthening, and maintaining respectful, and meaningful relationships with the local Indigenous Nation communities. The role supports the organization's commitment to reconciliation by advancing engagement strategies, fostering partnerships, and promoting cultural awareness and understanding.

The Manager, Indigenous Relations is responsible for guiding and supporting the Indigenous Relations team, managing workflows, priorities, resources, and ensuring alignment if Indigenous Relations activities with corporate strategy, project requirements, and reconciliation commitments.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provides leadership, mentorship, and active support to the Indigenous Relations team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and culturally informed work environment.
Leads Indigenous engagement activities related to projects, operations, relationship initiatives, while identifying additional opportunities for collaboration, and partnership.
Promotes and leads organizational cultural awareness and cross-functional collaboration to ensure Indigenous perspectives and priorities are integrated into internal processes and decision-making, while advancing Indigenous Relations practices and overall organizational effectiveness.
Manages Indigenous Relations team priorities, workplans, workflows, resource allocation and budget to ensure effective delivery of objectives and commitments.
Establishes and continuously improves Indigenous Relations processes, standards, and practices to enhance efficiency and consistency.
Provides strategic oversight of community engagement activities and the Indigenous donations and sponsorships program.
Represents the organization in meetings, engagement sessions, community events, and cultural gatherings.
Builds and maintains strong, trust-based relationships with Indigenous Nations, communities, leadership, businesses, and organizations.
Works with internal departments to develop, implement, and continuously improve Indigenous engagement and consultation processes.
Supports and collaborates with port partners on building relationships and participating in local events and initiatives.
Oversees the implementation of agreements, protocols and policies.
Ensures timely, consistent, and accurate communication of updates, initiatives, commitments, agreement implementation, and key information to Indigenous Nations, communities, and organizational stakeholders.
Prepares reports, briefing notes, presentations, dashboards, and recommendations for senior leadership and executive teams.
Maintains awareness of emerging community issues, concerns, risks, opportunities, and changes, and provides timely updates, recommendations, and strategic advice.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works predominately in an office environment.
Regular, full-time position (37.5 hours per week). Regular working hours are Mondays to Fridays, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with 1-hour unpaid lunch break.
Occasional travel may be required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Formal Education

Diploma or degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Affairs, or a related subject.

Related Experience

7 or more years of related experience.

Other Requirements

Demonstrated ability in developing and sustaining effective Indigenous relationships.
Proven ability to lead through influence in a complex, multi‑stakeholder environment.
High level of judgment, discretion, and integrity when handling confidential and sensitive matters.
Comfortable with public engagements, building and maintaining relationships.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
Able to obtain security clearance under Transport Canada's Security Clearance Program

The base salary range for this role is $131,542-$164,427. This position is eligible for a performance-based variable incentive targeted at 15% of the base salary.
