Data Engineer

We are looking for a Data Engineer for a 1 year contract with the intention of converting to full time permanent. Role is hybrid with 2 days a week on site in Downtown Toronto.

Key Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with technology teams and data stakeholders to understand available data sources and business requirements.
• Analyse, interpret and extract relevant information from large and complex datasets.
• Design and develop targeted data solutions, including data models, pipelines and reporting outputs.
• Build and implement data solutions from the ground up, ensuring they align with business objectives and compliance requirements.
• Utilise Databricks and programming languages such as Python, SQL or Java to develop and optimise data processes.
• Create and support reporting solutions and data visualisations using Power BI or similar tools.
• Translate complex technical data into meaningful, accessible outputs for business and compliance teams.
• Contribute to the overall data architecture and solution design, ensuring solutions are efficient, scalable and fit for purpose.

Essential Requirements

• Minimum 3 years' experience in Data Engineering, Data Analysis, Data Architecture or a closely related discipline.
• Strong hands-on experience with Databricks and the ability to develop using Python, SQL, Java or similar programming languages.
• Experience with Power BI or an equivalent business intelligence and reporting platform.
• Proven ability to analyse complex datasets and design effective data solutions.
• Experience taking business requirements and independently developing solutions from initial concept through to implementation.
• Understanding of data modelling, solution design and foundational data architecture principles.
• Previous experience within the financial services industry.

Desirable Experience

• Previous involvement in developing data solutions to support banking or financial services compliance initiatives.
• Experience working with regulatory, risk or compliance-related datasets.
• Understanding of banking data structures, regulatory reporting or financial services data requirements.
