Senior Design Engineer – Solar PV

Location: San Diego, CA or Montreal, QC

We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer – Solar PV to join a leading renewable energy organization supporting commercial and utility-scale solar projects.

This opportunity is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in photovoltaic system design, electrical engineering, and renewable energy development who enjoys taking projects from initial design through construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Design commercial and utility-scale solar PV systems ranging from 500 kW to 20 MW.
• Develop electrical single-line diagrams, site layouts, equipment layouts, and construction drawings.
• Perform electrical calculations, including string sizing, conductor sizing, voltage drop, and equipment selection.
• Utilize AutoCAD, PVsyst, and HelioScope for system design, performance modeling, and optimization.
• Prepare detailed engineering packages for permitting, procurement, and construction.
• Collaborate with project managers, contractors, utilities, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Review technical documentation and resolve design challenges throughout project development and construction.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes, industry standards, and project requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Approximately 10 years of relevant engineering experience preferred, with a strong focus on solar PV design.
• Demonstrated experience designing commercial, industrial, or utility-scale photovoltaic systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience with PVsyst and/or HelioScope.
• Strong understanding of electrical design, single-line diagrams, PV system components, and construction documentation.
• Experience supporting projects through permitting, engineering, and construction.
• Strong communication, technical problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
• PE, P.Eng./OIQ, or NABCEP certification is a plus.
