Mid-size logistics company looking for a Controller to manage and lead their accounting team. As a member of the Senior Management team, the Controller. This is a Mat leave coverage. Meet and manage operational objectives and plans to meet company goals while providing strategic financial input ensuring controls and procedures are in place to safeguard company assets, business partner to the management team, providing financial guidance and assistance on business issues and lead and manage finance team, ensuring it is effective and efficient.

Job Duties
- Responsible for safeguarding the company assets and communicating issues in a timely manner. (Fixed assets, inventories, receivables, liabilities, provisions etc.)
- Maintain and improve overall financial, accounting & reporting policies and procedures as well as optimizing operating unit procedures to ensure efficiency & effectiveness.
- Financial Reporting.
- Ensure submission of all corporate reporting in a timely manner following all prescribed policies.
- Ensure preparation of financial analyses and reports according to operational and strategic objectives.
- Analyze and interpret monthly, quarterly and annual results and explain any significant variance between actual and expected results.
- Ensures efficient preparation of reliable forecasts and other deliverables to the bank.
- Provide critical financial and operational information to facilitate strategic planning and allow for decisive actions to be implemented.
- Provide ongoing evaluation of business opportunities and risk, along with appropriate recommendations and/or action plans to ensure attainment of business objectives.
- Laise with external auditors
- Provide financial and non-financial support to management and staff.
- Identify, plan for, and follow-up on capital or operational projects including cost reduction initiatives.
- Other:
- Work as part of a team, follow and adhere to the company code of ethics and participate in the Continuous Improvements efforts.
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario, the Workplace Safety Insurance Act and all other applicable legislated environmental, health & safety regulations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Audit experience
- Excellent communication skills and ability to business partner with senior members of the management team, executives, auditors, vendors and team members.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills, polished professional.
- Ability to multi-task and juggle conflicting priorities on time and accurately.
- Team player with the ability to take ownership for order management.
- Demonstrated ability to handle stress in a patient and deliberate manner.
Education and Experience:
- Professional accounting designation required (CPA, CA preferred).
- Minimum eight (8) years of progressive accounting experience
- Minimum five (5) in a leadership role.
- Ability to lead, manage and develop a team to execute projects within Finance and other business areas.
- Extensive knowledge of PC based software programs: Word, Excel, Microsoft Dynamics GP (asset).
