Original job description
Head of Marketing (GTM)
Toronto, ON (Hybrid)
Full-time | 140-165k
About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established consumer marketplace that connects millions of buyers and sellers across a wide range of categories. The business is in the middle of a major brand and product refresh, and they’re looking for a Head of Marketing to lead go-to-market and bring the new brand to life. This is a great fit for a hands-on, AI-savvy marketer with a startup mindset who wants to build something from the ground up, and who sees this as the role that sets them up for a future CMO seat.
The Role
You’ll own marketing end to end, from strategy and budget to brand, experimentation, CRM and lifecycle. The team is intentionally lean, so you’ll be both the strategist and the person doing the work, using AI to get more done without a large team behind you. The team grows as results justify it.
You’ll partner closely with Product and leadership on the relaunch, have direct access to senior decision-makers, and have real room to test bold ideas, including unconventional campaigns and local activations. In your first 90 days, you’ll review in-market tests and make scale-or-stop calls, set lifecycle priorities and launch the first CRM programs, ship your first campaigns and deliver next year’s marketing plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the marketing strategy and annual plan, and own the budget.
- Lead go-to-market for the brand and product relaunch in close partnership with Product.
- Shape and evolve the brand as the product changes, keeping positioning and messaging consistent.
- Design, run and analyze paid and organic experiments with holdouts; scale what works and cut what doesn’t.
- Own CRM and lifecycle strategy across onboarding, retention and reactivation, working with a CRM specialist who builds the platform and flows.
- Run creative campaigns and local activations, including events, that get people talking.
- Report results clearly: what moved, what didn’t and what comes next.
AI-Enabled Ways of Working
- Run marketing on AI in-house, using it for content, creative variants, analysis and campaign operations.
- Build AI-assisted workflows that let a lean team operate at the output of a much larger one.
- Help make this team a model for how AI-driven marketing can work across the wider organization.
- Use good judgment on brand quality, accuracy and data privacy when deciding what to automate.
What We’re Looking For
- 4+ years in growth, performance or brand marketing, ideally at a startup or scale-up in consumer tech, apps or marketplaces.
- Some experience leading people, and ambition to grow into a CMO role.
- A track record across both brand and performance, including memorable campaigns or events backed by data on what they delivered.
- Hands-on experience running experiments with holdouts, and the discipline to stop your own campaigns when they don’t perform.
- Strong data skills, including attribution, and comfort building your own dashboards.
- AI-native, with clear examples of using AI to speed up content, creative, analysis or campaign operations.
- Working knowledge of CASL and consent-based marketing.
- A startup mentality: scrappy, resourceful and comfortable being both the leader and the doer.
- Able to commute to Toronto for a hybrid setup.
- Two-sided marketplace experience and brand strategy experience are strong assets.
This role is for the hands-on marketing leader who wants to own the full picture and build it with AI.
This position reflects a current vacancy with one of our clients. Our Recruiters combine deep market expertise with AI-enabled technology to support a faster, more informed recruitment process.
