About Protean Consulting Group
Protean Consulting Group provides business and IT consulting services, including data consulting, cloud consulting, talent sourcing, and outsourcing. We help organizations use technology to improve operations, strengthen security, and support growth.
About the role
We are looking for a hands-on Full Stack & DevOps Engineer who can build lightweight applications and deliver reliable cloud deployments.
This role combines backend development, React-based user interfaces, and cloud engineering. You will bring deep expertise in GitHub Actions, practical AWS experience, and hands-on experience deploying applications to Red Hat OpenShift. You will also work with Snowflake to support application data requirements and integrations.
The role suits an adaptable engineer who can move between application development and deployment automation, translate requirements into practical designs, and take ownership of delivery.
This is a hybrid position requiring two days per week in the office in Toronto.
What you will do
- Design, build, maintain, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
- Create reusable workflows and automate application builds, testing, and deployments.
- Deploy and support containerized applications on Red Hat OpenShift, including configuration, release troubleshooting, and rollback procedures.
- Configure and support AWS resources used by applications and delivery pipelines, with attention to security, reliability, and maintainability.
- Develop lightweight backend services, APIs, and integrations.
- Build and enhance React-based interfaces that connect with backend services and present information clearly.
- Contribute to application and technical design, balancing business requirements with implementation effort and operational needs.
- Work with Snowflake to query data and support application integrations.
- Collaborate with engineering, data, and business stakeholders to clarify requirements and resolve issues.
- Maintain appropriate tests, technical documentation, deployment instructions, and operational handover materials.
What you bring
- Practical full-stack development experience spanning backend services and web interfaces.
- Expert-level GitHub Actions skills, including reusable workflows, environment configuration, secrets management, deployment controls, and pipeline troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience building or supporting applications on AWS.
- Demonstrated experience deploying applications to Red Hat OpenShift.
- Working knowledge of containerization and Kubernetes concepts relevant to OpenShift deployments.
- Experience working with Snowflake, including SQL and data access or integration.
- The ability to build and maintain lightweight backend services and APIs using an appropriate programming language and framework.
- Working experience with React, JavaScript or TypeScript, and API integration.
- The ability to make practical design decisions and communicate technical trade-offs clearly.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, ownership of deliverables, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Preferred qualifications
- Knowledge of data contracts and the Open Data Contract Standard (ODCS).
- Familiarity with defining data schemas, ownership, quality expectations, and compatibility requirements.
- Experience incorporating data validation or contract checks into development and delivery workflows.
- Experience working in consulting or multidisciplinary delivery teams.
