Original job description

INTERMEDIATE FIELD TECHNICIAN

Hands-on environmental fieldwork, wildlife and vegetation monitoring, and technical support, with the curiosity to explore, the expertise to deliver, and the drive to make a meaningful impact in the field.

Location: Peterborough, ON

The Opportunity

We're looking for an Intermediate Field Technician to join our field services team. You'll work on-site across a variety of projects - collecting field data, performing tests and inspections, and supporting engineering and environmental teams from planning through project close-out. This role suits someone with a few years of hands-on field experience who is ready to take on more independent assignments and mentor junior technicians.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct field data collection, sampling, testing, and inspections in accordance with project specifications and applicable standards.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain field testing and monitoring equipment.
Prepare clear, accurate field notes, logs, and reports to support engineering and client deliverables.
Coordinate day-to-day field logistics and communicate progress, issues, and site conditions to project staff.
Support and mentor junior field technicians on-site.
Follow all PRI health and safety policies and site-specific safety plans; identify and report hazards.
Travel to project sites as required, including occasional overnight stays.

What You Bring

Technical diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental Technology, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).
2–4 years of relevant field experience in an engineering, environmental, or construction-materials setting as well as 1-2 years of relevant solar field experience.
Valid driver's license with a clean abstract; comfortable with regular travel between sites.
Strong attention to detail and accurate, organized record-keeping.
Ability to work independently outdoors in variable weather and site conditions.
Clear written and verbal communication skills

Assets

Standard First Aid / CPR, H2S Alive, and/or OFA certification.
Nuclear density gauge certification (e.g., ARDOT 461 or AASHTO T 310).
Experience with construction materials testing, geotechnical field work, or environmental monitoring.

Why PRI

At PRI, we believe exceptional consulting begins with exceptional people. We empower our senior professionals with meaningful responsibility, real client ownership, and the support of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

As a Intermediate Field Technician, You’ll Find

A diverse range of projects and clients across BC, Alberta, Ontario, and other jurisdictions, and a genuine say in the work you take on.
A collaborative, multidisciplinary environment; engineers, scientists, and resource professionals working together on shared projects.
Real opportunity to grow client relationships and lead pursuits.
A firm investing in modern tools and technology, including AI-enabled approaches, to make our people’s work better.
Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and genuine support for ongoing professional development and professional registration.

PRI is a multidisciplinary engineering and natural sciences consulting firm with offices across British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario & Nova Scotia.
