About The Opportunity
PRI is a multidisciplinary engineering and environmental consulting firm with offices across British Columbia, Alberta, Nova Scotia, and Ontario, growing toward 300 people. Rather than bend the business around off-the-shelf software, we build many of our own internal applications: business systems that run the firm, and technical tools that support our engineering and environmental practices. They run on our own Azure platform and integrate with our core enterprise systems.
We are hiring a Junior Software Developer, a recent graduate or early-career developer, to join a small team under our Lead Full-Stack Developer. You will learn by shipping: building features and fixes, writing tests, working with real users, and growing into owning whole applications. Some of what we build runs the business; some of it helps engineers and scientists do their technical work faster. The users are your colleagues down the hall, so feedback is immediate and you will see your work in use within weeks, not years. We expect you to use AI coding tools as a normal part of how you work, and to be honest about what you do not yet know. This is a role for someone who wants to learn fast with experienced developers close at hand.
What You'll Do
- Build, test, and ship features and fixes across internal web applications: database, API, and user interface, with guidance from senior developers.
- Help build and maintain integrations with the firm's enterprise systems through their APIs.
- Learn to deploy and operate applications on Azure across test and production environments, using Git, pull requests, and CI/CD.
- Sit with the people who use the software, understand what they need, and iterate on their feedback.
- Contribute to technical tools for the engineering and environmental practices, learning the domain from the engineers you build for.
- Handle multi-entity data correctly: several legal entities, one org chart, and documents that must show the right company name.
- Follow the team's standards for security, data handling, and code quality, and ask when you are unsure.
- Write clear documentation and tests so your work is easy for others to pick up.
- Support applications in production, triage bugs, and learn how software behaves once real people depend on it.
What you bring
- Degree or diploma in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, completed within the last two years or completing by your start date.
- Demonstrated ability to build web applications in a modern stack (for example C# and .NET or Node and TypeScript, React or similar, and SQL), through co-op terms, internships, personal projects, or coursework you can show us.
- Understanding of REST APIs, relational databases, and Git, with some hands-on use of each.
- Curiosity about how applications are deployed and run; cloud experience is a plus, not a requirement.
- Comfort using AI coding assistants to learn and to work faster, and the discipline to understand and test what they produce.
- Clear communication, a habit of asking good questions, and the drive to learn quickly from experienced developers.
- Pride in finishing: a feature is done when it works for the person using it.
- A co-op or internship term building software in a business setting.
- Any exposure to Azure, Entra ID, or Microsoft 365 development.
- A portfolio, GitHub, or capstone project you are proud of and can walk us through.
- Interest in engineering, science, or data-heavy problems.
- Real work from your first week, on applications used every day by 150 colleagues.
- Two experienced developers to learn from, and a clear path to owning applications of your own.
- Modern tooling, AI-assisted development, and a leadership team that funds building rather than buying.
- Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and support for professional development.
