Corporate Controller

As one of Canada's leading container terminals and a critical gateway for international trade, PSA Halifax offers an exciting opportunity for an accomplished finance professional to make a strategic impact within a dynamic and growing organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer & Corporate Secretary, the Corporate Controller will play a key leadership role in guiding the organization's financial performance, risk management, governance, and operational decision-making.

This position goes beyond traditional accounting leadership. As Corporate Controller, you will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership while overseeing all aspects of financial reporting, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. You will help drive business performance through insightful analysis, strong governance, and continuous process improvement. As a member of the Extended Management Team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to strategic planning initiatives and influence important business decisions that support the long-term success of the organization

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Leadership

Lead the preparation and review of monthly and annual financial statements
Oversee forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning activities
Coordinate year-end audits, tax compliance, and regulatory reporting
Monitor banking relationships, lending agreements, and covenant compliance
Support Board reporting and executive decision-making processes

Treasury & Operational Finance

Manage cash flow forecasting and treasury functions
Oversee Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, payroll, and billing activities
Analyze operational performance, labour costs, and customer profitability
Ensure financial resources are managed efficiently and effectively

Strategic Business Support

Develop business cases, pro forma analyses, and investment evaluations
Support capital planning and operational improvement initiatives
Contribute financial insights to strategic and business development opportunities
Participate in customer contract and service costing analysis

Governance, Risk & Controls

Champion strong internal controls and financial governance practices
Support enterprise risk management initiatives
Lead continuous improvement efforts across financial processes and systems
Oversee insurance administration, claims management, and policy renewals

The ideal candidate will possess:

CPA designation is a must
Minimum 5 years of progressive finance and accounting experience
Leadership experience with responsibility for coaching and developing teams
Strong expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Experience supporting business planning and strategic initiatives
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
Experience in risk management and governance practices
Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP would be considered an asset
