Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Senior Accountant role based in Surrey, BC. The Senior Accountant will manage a portfolio of corporate and individual clients, preparing and reviewing financial statements, tax returns, and related working papers for small to medium-sized businesses and not-for-profit organizations. Responsibilities include performing audit and assurance engagements, overseeing bookkeeping and NTR files, and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting and tax standards. The role involves providing proactive tax planning and business advisory support, identifying opportunities for process improvements, and collaborating with partners and team members to deliver timely, high-quality client service. The Senior Accountant will also mentor junior staff, review their work, and contribute to a collaborative and professional office environment.
Qualifications
- Strong technical accounting skills, including experience with financial statement preparation, assurance engagements, and NTR files for small to medium-sized businesses.
- Advanced taxation knowledge covering corporate, personal, and not-for-profit tax compliance and planning, with the ability to interpret and apply current tax legislation.
- Proficiency in bookkeeping and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, CaseWare, tax preparation software) and solid Excel skills for analysis and working papers.
- Demonstrated client service, business consulting, and advisory abilities, including communicating complex financial and tax matters in clear, practical terms.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize workload effectively.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) in good standing, with several years of progressive public practice experience at the senior accountant level.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in an on-site team environment, and commitment to integrity and confidentiality.
- Experience with audits and reviews, and familiarity with not-for-profit and small business environments; exposure to the Greater Vancouver market is an asset.
