Role Summary
The Saw Operator is responsible for preparing structural steel through the set and operation of the Bandsaw machines in the welding shop.
Key Responsibilities
- Sets up and operates power saws to cut, slot, groove, miter, and trim workpieces according to specifications
- Select and installs blade on machine, using handtools.
- Sets controls to adjust speed, feed rate, and blade tensions.
- Positions guides, stops, holding blocks, or other fixtures to secure and direct workpiece, using handtools and measuring devices.
- Scribes reference lines on material as guide for sawing operations, according to specifications.
- Mounts workpiece in holding device, manually or using hoist.
- Operates saw to cut along scribed lines.
- Verifies dimensions of finished workpiece, using measuring devices.
- Ensure housekeeping is completed on a daily basis in assigned area.
- Comply with standards and procedures of the PTW health and safety manual and Occupational Health
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor or shop foreman.
- Understanding of production procedures
- Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of protective gear)
