Company
Punt is a Vancouver-based, founder-led technology company behind two of the largest social casinos in North America. We're evolving into a super app that brings social gaming and exciting new verticals together in one experience. Our backend already handles high-volume, real-money transactions at scale. We're building toward a new category: the most advanced and engaging social gaming platform in the world.
Role Overview
We’re seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to help advance our infrastructure, security, reliability, and platform maturity. This is an individual contributor role for someone who can operate across cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, production operations, security controls, observability, incident response, and developer enablement.
You will be responsible for designing and operating secure, scalable, cost-effective, and highly available infrastructure that supports a fast-growing social gaming business. You’ll work closely with engineering leadership, backend engineers, product teams, and security stakeholders to raise the bar for how systems are built, deployed, monitored, secured, and operated.
This role requires strong hands-on AWS experience, production infrastructure ownership, strong SRE instincts, and the ability to support other engineers while applying pragmatic standards. You should be comfortable working in high-traffic environments where reliability, security, release safety, and operational excellence directly affect the business.
Participation in an on-call rotation is required.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and continuously improve secure, scalable, and highly available AWS infrastructure supporting high-volume social gaming and transactional workloads.
Own and improve production infrastructure across services such as ECS, RDS, VPC, EC2, CloudFront, CloudWatch, serverless components, networking, load balancing, and related AWS services.
Help implement and mature DevSecOps practices across the engineering organization, including secure CI/CD, secrets management, least-privilege access, infrastructure hardening, vulnerability management, and deployment governance.
Design, optimize, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, AWS CDK, CodeBuild, CodePipeline, and related automation frameworks.
Improve production reliability through SRE practices, including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, incident response, post-incident reviews, runbooks, alert hygiene, and operational readiness standards.
Build and maintain observability systems using tools such as CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, New Relic, or equivalent platforms.
Partner with backend and frontend engineering teams to improve release safety, rollback strategies, automated testing gates, deployment visibility, and production support practices.
Diagnose and resolve complex performance, scalability, and reliability issues across AWS infrastructure, PostgreSQL, Redis, PHP/Laravel workloads, Apache, Nginx, and related runtime environments.
Drive infrastructure-as-code adoption, cloud cost optimization, environment consistency, and repeatable deployment patterns across development, staging, and production.
Support platform evolution, including pragmatic migration from monolithic systems toward better-bounded services where it improves scalability, reliability, security, or delivery speed.
Strengthen cloud security posture through IAM design, network segmentation, logging, auditing, encryption, secure build practices, and compliance-oriented controls.
Contribute to architecture reviews, operational readiness reviews, documentation, incident reviews, and hands-on guidance for engineering teams.
Bring an AI-forward engineering mindset, using modern AI-assisted development, automation, and operational tooling to improve engineering leverage, code quality, security review, and production support.
Required Qualifications & Experience
3+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, cloud engineering, security engineering, or related roles.
Strong production experience operating high-traffic, high-availability, customer-facing systems.
Deep hands-on experience with AWS, including services such as ECS, RDS, CloudFront, VPC, EC2, CloudWatch, IAM, load balancers, serverless services, and networking primitives.
Strong infrastructure-as-code experience, ideally with AWS CDK, Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent tools.
Strong CI/CD experience using GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild, CodePipeline, or comparable deployment platforms.
Strong understanding of secure software delivery, including build pipeline security, secrets management, artifact integrity, dependency scanning, vulnerability management, and least-privilege access.
Strong knowledge of SRE practices, including SLIs, SLOs, alerting, incident response, runbooks, post-incident reviews, and production readiness.
Hands-on experience with observability, logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and production debugging using tools such as CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, New Relic, or equivalent platforms.
Experience supporting production workloads involving PostgreSQL and Redis, including performance diagnosis, scaling considerations, backup/recovery, and operational management.
Working knowledge of web infrastructure and runtime performance involving PHP, Apache, Nginx, containers, networking, caching, and load balancing.
Strong understanding of cloud security, network security, IAM, encryption, audit logging, access control, and compliance-oriented operational controls.
Experience participating in or leading on-call rotations and production incident response.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, including participation in architecture reviews, operational documentation, and cross-functional teamwork.
Preferred Skills & Nice-to-Haves
Experience in gaming, social gaming, fintech, payments, cryptocurrency, blockchain, gambling-adjacent, or other high-volume transactional platforms.
Experience with PostgreSQL schema design, indexing, query optimization, replication, backup/recovery, and performance tuning.
Experience automating SLAs, SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and alerting when reliability contracts are breached.
Experience securing the software supply chain, including dependency scanning, SBOMs, container scanning, artifact signing, branch protection, and secure release workflows.
Experience migrating monolithic applications toward microservices, service-oriented architecture, or better-bounded platform components.
Experience with containers and orchestration platforms such as Docker, ECS, EKS, Kubernetes, or similar.
Experience with WAFs, DDoS protection, CDN configuration, bot mitigation, fraud-adjacent infrastructure controls, or edge security.
Experience with compliance programs, security questionnaires, SOC 2-style controls, audit evidence collection, or production control frameworks.
Experience improving developer experience through internal tooling, golden paths, self-service infrastructure, templates, automation, and platform standards.
Strong cost optimization experience across AWS compute, database, networking, storage, logging, and observability spend.
Experience using AI-assisted tools for infrastructure automation, incident analysis, security review, code generation, documentation, and operational workflows.
Education & Location
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Must be able to work 100% onsite in Vancouver, BC.
Must be able to participate in an on-call rotation.
