Original job description

About Purelend

Purelend is an early-stage company reimagining banking technology, starting with mortgage loans. We're automating manual checks and underwriting work to get mortgages funded faster. Our platform is already used by brokers and lenders across Canada. Revenue is growing, the pipeline is full, and every lender we bring live moves a real number on the business.

Our AI Stance

We're all in on AI across the company. We're looking for someone who uses these tools in their own work, is accountable for the results, and wants to help us push that bet further.

The Role

We're hiring a Forward Deployed Product Manager. Your primary responsibility is getting lenders successfully live on Purelend and making sure the platform delivers value to the people using it. You'll simultaneously turn what you learn through those implementations into capabilities that make the product better for every lender. Our clients are our greatest advocates and committed partners in building this platform.

What You'll Actually Do

Every lender has its own credit policy, underwriting process, origination system, and path to funding. You'll learn those workflows, work out where Purelend fits, and identify what's missing. You'll turn gaps into clear scope and acceptance criteria, work with developers through the build, and test the result before it reaches a lender. You'll also get your hands on production configuration where it makes sense.

You'll own the implementation and day-to-day decisions. That includes challenging requests, using existing capabilities, and knowing when customization would make the platform harder for everyone else. When new development is needed, you'll work with engineering to agree on what we can build and when. When a lender's needs compete with other platform priorities or change a commercial commitment, you'll bring a recommendation to the CEO and work through the trade-offs.

You'll also help lenders understand and use what we build: what it does, where it fits in their workflow, and why it matters. You'll demo, support adoption, and check whether it's delivering the value we expected. Everyone here is part of the sales motion. You'll help land deals and pitch new features. You won't carry a quota, but you should enjoy getting a lender excited about what we're building.

Timeline

We're Evolving Our Product Implementation Process. You'll Own It, And Build It From Real Reps, Not a Whiteboard. Here's What Your First Weeks And Months Look Like

  • Week one: You're on calls with lenders, and they know your name. You can explain the main steps in an assigned lender's workflow and identify the questions we still need to answer.
  • Week two: You've drafted scope for a scoped piece of implementation work, including measurement and build plans with engineering.
  • Weeks three and four: You're running an agreed implementation milestone, with clear responsibilities, dependencies, and acceptance criteria. You've documented an initial implementation approach based on the work you're doing.
  • Months one and two: You've taken an agreed piece of lender work through delivery and lender validation. You've identified what we can reuse for other lenders and improved the implementation approach based on what actually happened.

What You Bring

We're Open To a Variety Of Backgrounds, For Example

  • A product manager who wants to be close to customers and execute aggressively. You've owned customer problems through discovery, delivery, and adoption. You want to spend real time with lenders, learn how to navigate their organizations, and apply product thinking to implementation.
  • An operator with a great product mind. You've spent years solving customer problems on a platform in implementation, professional services, or solutions. You've spotted recurring needs, helped shape what got built, and want more responsibility for the product itself.

Either Way, You Bring

  • Autonomy. You've carried customer work forward without a fully defined process. You form a view, make decisions, and know when to bring in help.
  • Product judgment. You've challenged a requested solution, worked out what the customer actually needed, and made a clear call about what to build, configure, or leave out.
  • Technical depth. You want to understand how the product really works. You're comfortable in GitHub, in a ticket, in a config file, or in an API spec. When something is unfamiliar, you investigate, ask precise questions, and work through it with the right people.
  • Customer-facing comfort. You've earned trust with senior customers and the people doing the work. You can sit with a head of underwriting at a national lender, work out what they need, and handle a difficult conversation when necessary.
  • Structured thinking. You've taken a messy, complicated process and turned it into clear scope a developer could build from, with a way to verify that the result solved the problem.
  • Taste. You care what the product looks like and how it feels to use. You've pushed for the details that made something easier to understand or better to work with.
  • An AI-first mindset for your own work. You use AI tools to prototype, investigate, and move faster. You check their output and can explain where they've improved your work and where you've needed a different approach.

Nice to Have

Bonus points for mortgage or lending experience, or experience at a lending technology company.

Why This Role Is Interesting

In this role you own the customer outcome, spend real time in the technical detail, and build the process while doing the work. You'll be close to lenders and involved through delivery and adoption.

You'll continue to iterate the role. The way you implement our next lenders will become how every lender after them gets onboarded, and what you learn from them will shape what the platform becomes.

Compensation

Our total compensation, a blend of cash and equity, is market competitive.
