Company Description
Q2 Metals is a Canadian mineral exploration company dedicated to advancing the Cisco Lithium Project, located within the greater Nemaska traditional territory in the Eeyou Istchee, James Bay region of Quebec. Q2 Metals focuses on responsible exploration, long-term value creation, and collaboration with local communities and stakeholders.
Role Description
Q2 Metals is seeking a full-time, field-based Project Geologist – Drill Operations to coordinate the day-to-day execution of drilling at the Cisco Lithium Project.
Reporting to the Exploration Managers, the successful candidate will oversee drilling contractors, coordinate daily operations and rig moves, and monitor drilling progress and costs. This hands-on operational role requires strong field experience, contractor management skills and practical judgment to keep a multi-rig drilling program running safely and efficiently.
The position works closely with the geology, drilling and logistics teams to execute approved drill plans. Geological targeting and decisions to extend or terminate holes remain with the Exploration Managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary day-to-day field contact for drilling contractors, communicating priorities and resolving operational issues.
- Maintain a short-term drilling and rig-move schedule, anticipate operational constraints, and provide regular updates on production, delays and upcoming support requirements.
- Oversee implementation of site health, safety and environmental policies across drilling operations, monitor compliance by all contractors and subcontractors supporting the drill program, and ensure deficiencies are addressed or escalated promptly.
- Review contractor daily reports, rig sheets and invoices to track production, delays and billable activities, verify charges against contract terms, and identify billing discrepancies.
- Coordinate with geology and logistics personnel on core transport, equipment, supplies and drill-site support.
- Coordinate drill-site preparation, access, equipment positioning and drill moves with contractors and site support teams.
- Locate and mark planned drill collars, verify azimuths and dips, and check drill alignment before drilling begins.
- Monitor drilling progress, core recovery and downhole survey results, reporting deviations and concerns to the Exploration Managers.
- Coordinate hole completion once authorized, including final surveys, casing requirements, collar marking and site cleanup.
- Maintain accurate records of collar locations, drilling progress, surveys and completed holes.
Qualifications
- Minimum five years of relevant mineral exploration experience, including direct involvement in diamond drilling operations.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating drilling contractors, spotting drills, verifying drill setups and overseeing hole completion.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple active rigs and changing field priorities.
- Fluency in spoken and written English and French is required. A strong French-language background, particularly experience working with francophone drilling crews and contractors, is strongly preferred.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain productive relationships with contractors and colleagues.
- Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices and responsible environmental management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or a related field.
- Working knowledge of drilling methods, downhole survey procedures, hole deviation and common operational challenges.
- Proficiency with GPS equipment, digital field records and standard reporting software.
- Experience tracking drilling costs and reviewing contractor billing against contract terms is considered an asset.
- Experience with helicopter-supported drilling, winter operations and remote camps is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in hard-rock exploration is considered an asset.
- Eligibility to work in Canada and willingness to work a rotational schedule at the Cisco Lithium Project in the James Bay region of Quebec.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.
- Health and dental benefits.
- Potential participation in the company’s equity incentive plan, subject to approval.
- Company-paid travel, camp accommodations and meals during field rotations.
- A regular rotational schedule with dedicated time off.
- The opportunity to play a key operational role in advancing a major Canadian lithium project.
