Take ownership of day-to-day service delivery, workload and capacity management while helping build a consistent, high-performing team.
The salary range for this role is between $86,400 - $129,600 CAD, depending on experience.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced people leader to join our Underwriting Operations team in Toronto. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you’ll lead a team of Underwriting Assistants across Toronto and Vancouver, with responsibility for people development, workload and capacity management, and day-to-day service delivery. You’ll work closely with Underwriting teams to manage priorities, improve ways of working and build a high-performing, responsive team.

Your New Role  

Lead, coach and develop a team of Underwriting Assistants, setting clear objectives and providing regular feedback, one-to-ones and development support.
Manage day-to-day workload, capacity and resources, allocating and rebalancing work in response to Underwriting priorities and changing demand.
Monitor KPIs, service levels, quality and productivity, taking timely action when performance or capacity risks emerge.
Coordinate team coverage and cross-training to build capability, resilience and consistent service delivery.
Act as the first point of escalation for day-to-day workload, resourcing and service issues, escalating material risks where appropriate.
Build strong relationships with Underwriting teams, understanding their priorities and ensuring operational support is responsive to business needs.
Promote consistent processes, quality standards and controls, identifying opportunities to simplify ways of working and improve service delivery.
Support the implementation and adoption of new systems and operational initiatives, while ensuring the team operates in accordance with applicable legal, regulatory and internal requirements.

About You  

We’re looking for an experienced people leader who enjoys combining coaching and team development with hands-on operational management. You’ll be comfortable managing competing priorities, using data to make informed decisions and building strong relationships with stakeholders.

You’ll ideally bring:

Proven experience leading, coaching and developing a team, including objective setting, one-to-ones and performance management.
Strong workload, capacity and prioritisation skills within a fast-paced operational or service environment.
Ability to use KPIs and operational data to identify issues, manage performance and support resourcing decisions.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Experience improving processes and supporting operational change.
A proactive approach to problem-solving with sound judgement around when escalation is required.
Experience within insurance or financial services, ideally within underwriting operations or an underwriting support environment.
Knowledge of commercial insurance processes, the Lloyd’s or London Market, or systems such as EPIC or Lineage would be advantageous.
