Original job description
Job type: Full-time, Permanent
Work arrangement: On-site
Pay: CA$65,000–CA$75,000 per year
About Us:
Quality Chain Canada (QCC) is a leading Canadian distributor of traction tire chains and industrial products, supporting customers across construction, forestry, mining, agriculture, and transportation. With over 50 years in business, we partner with global suppliers to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions that keep our customers operating safely and efficiently. We pride ourselves on being responsive, dependable, and easy to do business with.
Position Overview:
We're looking for an experienced Buyer to keep thousands of parts on the shelf through Canadian winters, construction seasons and everything in between. Some of our product lines run on their own seasonal cycles and others sell year-round, so the work never really slows down. When things get busy, your experience keeps you steady.
Working closely with the Supply Chain Manager, you'll help decide what we need and when. You'll keep data moving in both directions: pulling raw data out of our ERP and shaping it in Power Query and Excel into stock levels that follow each product's demand. Together, you'll review the trends, agree on what needs to change and bring what you learn into our S&OP planning, then update the ERP with the decisions you've made. From there, you'll get purchase orders approved and out the door, and make sure what our suppliers confirm is what we asked for.
This isn't just a desk job. You'll be encouraged to spend real time on the shop and warehouse floor learning what our parts look like and how they fit together, and you'll get to know everyone from receiving to sales. As a company, we're straight-talking, low-ego and quick to move on: we say what we think, own what we don't know, and let the best-placed person make the call. We work hard, we work hard together, and a good sense of humour helps.
We're growing, and so is our supply chain team. As we bring in new automation tools, you'll help shape how they work and put them into practice. For the right person, there's real opportunity to grow with us, including toward more senior roles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review the Need-To-Buy (NTB) report, and work through it with the Supply Chain Manager, leadership and Sales to agree what to buy and when
- Create purchase orders for agreed buys, see them through approval to issue, and reconcile supplier confirmations against each PO, making sure drawings and specifications are approved internally before production starts
- Manage open and in-transit orders through to delivery with suppliers and the Supply Chain Coordinator, keeping our systems accurate through split shipments and container planning, and resolving anything late, short or damaged
- Source and compare suppliers, request quotes and regular price updates so POs and landed costs stay accurate, and negotiate price, lead time and terms
- Work with our Supply Chain Coordinator to hand off confirmed POs, control freight costs and keep lead times current
- Work with the supply chain team to maintain part and supplier records in the ERP, including pack sizes, part descriptions, reorder points, costing, HS codes and duty rates
- Review and analyze inventory, and work with production and the warehouse to verify stock and serial numbers, resolve discrepancies and flag slow-moving stock
- Help the supply chain team track purchasing spend against budget, raising early warnings when planned buys put the budget at risk
- Bring a continuous improvement mindset, looking for better ways to work and sharing ideas or putting them into practice
Qualifications
- 3+ years of buying or inventory planning experience across a large, varied catalogue, including seasonal products and suppliers in Asia; industrial or heavy-equipment parts ideal
- A CPIM, CSCP, SCMP or CPSM designation, complete or in progress
- Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, Power Query) and ERP experience with purchase orders and inventory reporting
- Solid grasp of inventory fundamentals: reorder points, min/max, safety stock, lead times, ABC classification, inventory turns, landed cost and units of measure
- Clear spoken and written English, including all written supplier correspondence; able to read specifications and technical drawings and explain part details clearly
- Calm under pressure and organized by habit, using our tools, or building your own, to keep every detail and follow-up on track
- Eager to learn, quick to take initiative, and owns mistakes without taking things personally
- Comfortable on the shop and warehouse floor and curious about how our parts are made, fit together and get used
- Legally entitled to work in Canada at the time of application; we are unable to sponsor work permits
- Assets: Spire ERP; forklift certification or willingness to get certified; experience with tariffs on metals; additional languages such as Mandarin or Korean
Benefits:
- Dental care
- Extended health care
- Vision care
- RRSP match
- Paid time off
- On-site parking
- Monthly staff lunches
- Summer picnic and winter holiday event
