Original job description

About Quantized Technologies Inc. (QTi)

The next era of computing won’t be built on a single quantum computer – it will be built by connecting them. At QTi, we believe quantum networking is the defining technology that turns isolated quantum devices into world-changing infrastructure.

We are building the future of distributed quantum computing and ultra-secure communications. Our QuEDGE Connect technology enables modular, interconnected quantum processors to scale beyond the limits of single chips, while QuEDGE Repeat lays the groundwork for a long-distance quantum internet. By converging breakthroughs in quantum memory, quantum transduction, entanglement distribution and swapping, photonics, and networking, we translate lab science into real-world commercial engineering. At the same time, we are developing quantum-secure solutions to protect the world’s most critical data during this transition.

Our team operates at the intersection of quantum physics, hardware, embedded systems, and software to tackle challenges on a generational scale. If you want to do the most impactful work of your career and help build the infrastructure that defines the next era of computing, join us.

Why Join QTi?

People are at the heart of deep-tech innovation. We’ve brought together top scientists, engineers, and operational minds to tackle some of the most complex challenges in modern physics and networking. At QTi, you’ll join a highly collaborative, fast-moving culture where your work directly shapes our brand, commercial presence, and industry footprint. We support and count on each other, take ownership of our projects, and solve hard problems together in a dynamic startup environment.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a driven and hands-on Junior Photonics Engineer to support the development and testing of optical systems for quantum technologies, including entangled photon sources. This role is ideal for a recent MSc or PhD graduate who has strong practical laboratory experience, is not purely a theorist, and wants to apply their skills in photonics, quantum optics, and nonlinear optics to real-world commercial quantum hardware.

Working closely with senior specialists and engineers, you will contribute directly to optical system development, component assembly, alignment, data acquisition, and system documentation.

What You’ll Do

Hardware Assembly: Assemble, align, characterize, and document free-space and fiber-optic setups.
Source Development: Support the development of entangled-photon-pair sources using nonlinear optical processes.
Equipment Operation: Operate optical equipment, including lasers, modulators, spectrometers, photo detectors, and single-photon detectors.
Instrumentation & Automation: Develop Python or C scripts for instrument control, data acquisition, and analysis.
System Optimization: Assist with modeling, simulation, implementation, and optimization of components and systems.
Documentation & Safety: Record methods, analyze results, prepare technical reports, follow safety procedures, and help maintain an organized and efficient facility.

Who You Are

Education: MSc or PhD in physics, photonics, optics, or a related field.
Hands-on Experimentalist: Demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience through research, graduate work, internships, or employment. You are an active lab experimentalist and engineer with practical lab exposure, not purely a theoretical or computational researcher.
Core Skill Sets: Strong foundational knowledge and practical understanding of:
Foundational optics, interference, fibre-coupled devices, and modulation techniques.
Quantum optics, nonlinear optics, photonics principles, etc.
Photon statistics and correlation measurements.
Fiber coupling, optical alignment, and photonic device characterization.
Software & Analysis: Proficiency in Python or C for scientific computing and data analysis.
Problem Solver: Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and teamwork skills. A demonstrated ability to diagnose errors and faults, ideate solutions, and implement corrections.
In-Person Collaborator: Comfortable working on-site on a full-time basis in our Calgary R&D facility, thriving in a team-oriented, hands-on lab environment.

Why You’ll Love QTi

At QTi, you’ll join a high-performing, supportive team working on world-changing technology. We offer a competitive total rewards package, including:

Competitive base salary and eligibility for annual performance reviews.
Comprehensive health benefits package.
Generous paid vacation and flexible time-off policies.
Rapid career progression and learning opportunities in a high-growth quantum tech startup.
A vibrant, collaborative work environment in Calgary, AB.

How to Apply

If you are an experimental photonics engineer ready to help build the infrastructure that defines the future of quantum networking, please submit your CV/resume and a brief overview of your key achievements and relevant projects through our application portal.

Quantized Technologies Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We invite diversity and are committed to creating a welcoming environment for all employees.
