Role: Intermediate HW Designer (contract)
Type: Hybrid in Ottawa
Required Qualifications:
- Experience with high-speed digital design and multi-layer PCB design
- In-depth understanding of the full hardware product development cycle: requirements, architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, signal integrity, verification, and manufacturing
- Background in FPGA designs, including power/thermal design
- Hands-on debugging using scopes, VNAs, signal generators, and electronic loads; comfortable with optical test sets and GHz+ oscilloscopes for eye-diagram, phase-noise, and signal-quality analysis
- Familiarity with ESD, EMI, and RF design considerations
Tools, languages and platforms:
- Cadence OrCAD (Capture CIS), Design Entry HDL, Mentor Graphics DxDesigner, Altium Designer for schematic capture
- Agilent ADS, ANSYS HFSS, MATLAB/Simulink, Cadence PSpice, LTspice for design and simulation

Responsibilities
Design and develop hardware across the product lifecycle, including requirements, architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, signal integrity, verification, and manufacturing. Debug hardware using laboratory instruments and perform optical and high-frequency signal-quality analysis.
Requirements
Requires experience in high-speed digital and multi-layer PCB design, FPGA designs, and power and thermal design. Candidates should be comfortable with hands-on debugging equipment and familiar with ESD, EMI, RF considerations, and the listed hardware design and simulation tools.
