About the Role
Quectel North America is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to own product structure from concept through mass production. You will lead structural and stack-up design for consumer electronics and IoT products, including mobile and POS devices. You will take each product from technical feasibility and design review through DFM, tooling, sample approval, and launch.
Key Responsibilities
Feasibility and Component Selection
- Assess the technical feasibility of structural design directions against product definition and industry standards. Identify risks and document contingency plans.
- Select mechanical and electrical components based on hardware, structure, and cost requirements.
Product Design and Documentation
- Lead product stack-up and overall structural design. Organize cross-functional design reviews.
- Produce engineering documentation, including keep-out drawings, part drawings, assembly flowcharts, exploded views, DFM reports, and BOMs.
Prototyping, Tooling, and Mass Production
- Build and validate hand-assembled mockups.
- Review mold DFM. Follow mold processing, trial molds, and sample approval.
- Support key product launches. Track pilot-production and test issues, and drive corrective actions.
Standards and Continuous Improvement
- Establish and continuously improve technical standards and design guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in the consumer electronics industry.
- Solid understanding of mechanical principles, GD&T standards, and tolerance analysis.
- Knowledge of assembly design and of the design characteristics of common parts.
- Familiarity with stamping, plastic injection, and die-casting molds, plus related materials and surface treatments.
- Advanced proficiency in 3D and 2D CAD software, including complex surface modelling. Able to independently produce 3D models and 2D drawings.
- Working knowledge of the product development process.
- Fluent Mandarin Chinese (spoken and written). Required to coordinate directly with R&D, mold, and manufacturing teams in China. Open to applicants of any background who meet this language requirement.
- Ability to work under pressure and take ownership of key, high-difficulty projects.

- Hands-on experience with mobile phone or POS terminal products.
- Experience supporting pilot production and mass-production ramp-up.
