Host, Blue Sky

CBC Saskatchewan is looking for a dynamic new host for Blue Sky, our noon hour current affairs radio program. The position can be based in either Regina or Saskatoon. This is a term position that will end in January, 2028.

You are the most curious person in the room. You relate well to guests. You care deeply about their stories. You know when to laugh, and you know when to hold people accountable. You are confident in what you know, and are interested in what you don’t.

You understand that audiences want to be both entertained and informed over the lunch hour, and you make audiences feel welcome and part of a community. You know that using a full range of tone and perspective is key to strong radio current affairs programming.

You have a sense of adventure, an eclectic range of interests and a keen desire to meet new people, explore our province, and learn other perspectives. You are passionate about championing stories from Saskatchewan’s under-represented communities, and you love meeting listeners where they live through in-person public appearances and remote broadcasts.

An exceptional journalist and a keen observer, you must be able to quickly analyze a broad range of issues and thrive in the fast-paced, high-pressure world of live, local radio. You have a strong grasp on Saskatchewan’s political landscape and its energy-driven and ag-driven economy. You understand how these issues affect the day-to-day lives of the people who live here.

As a leader on the Blue Sky team, it’s clear you care about your colleagues on the show and in the newsroom. You act as a team unifier and collaborator, and are always looking for creative solutions to challenges.

You live for our audiences. You care as much about our traditional audiences as you do about getting your storytelling in front of entirely new audiences. You are keen to explore how we can do that in video and social spaces.

Your Responsibilities

Pitch and produce original stories that deepen Blue Sky’s community connections, elevate a range of voices and reflect the day’s top local news.
Host Blue Sky live on air between 12:00-1:00 pm weekdays, conducting interviews on a wide variety of current events.
Interact spontaneously with program participants such as guests, reporters, experts and members of the audience.
Conduct research and interviews, gather audio, write and package audio content.
Write and package digital content.
Participate in community outreach activities to deepen CBC’s connection with audiences.

Your Profile

An engaging, curious, and spontaneous on-air personality, with a wide range of genuine interests, knowledge and insight, reflecting curiosity in many current affairs topics, and an ability to make them relevant to existing and new audiences.
Strong journalistic skills, demonstrated through original story ideas, live interviewing, innovative storytelling, and writing and vetting abilities.
Excellent critical thinking skills, including knowledge of and familiarity with CBC Journalistic Standards as well as the legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
Ability to react quickly to changing circumstances and breaking news; comfortable going off-script when needed.
A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Saskatchewan, and an openness to diverse perspectives and ideas.
Familiarity with digital and social storytelling and a willingness to learn and tackle new tasks across all CBC platforms (TV, radio, digital).
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and locations.
A proven work ethic and a positive attitude.
A strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
A passion for public outreach and an enthusiastic ambassador of public broadcasting and the program.
Possession of a valid driver’s licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company – other classes considered an asset.
Ability to work a variety of shifts including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
University degree or equivalent in a related field, with a minimum of five years of relevant or comparable experience.

We want to hear what you sound like! Please include a link to samples of your on-air work in your cover letter.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next

step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:

A mandatory Criminal record check.
Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.

CBC/Radio-Canada is committed to being a leader in reflecting our country’s diversity. That’s because we can only create and tell the stories that connect Canadians, by having a workforce that mirrors the ever-changing makeup of our country. That’s why we, as an employer, value equal opportunity and nurture an inclusive workplace where our individual differences are not only recognized and valued, but also extend to and pervade all the services we provide as Canada’s public broadcaster. For more information, visit the Diversity and Inclusion section of our website. If you have accommodation needs at this stage of the recruitment process, please inform us as soon as possible by sending an e-mail to recruitment@cbc.ca.

You are invited to consult and familiarize yourself with our Code of Conduct, which can be found on our corporate website. All employees must adhere to the Code as a condition of employment. We also invite you to take a look at our policy on conflicts of interest. In the event that you become an employee, it will be important to inform us, as quickly as possible, of any situation that, because of your hiring, constitutes or could appear to constitute a conflict of interest.
