Original job description

The short version

We are building software that companies can trust with the written answers they give their customers, where a wrong answer is a broken commitment. You will be the person who makes that real for each client: sitting with their teams, understanding how their work actually gets done, getting our product live inside their own environment, and making sure it delivers. Then you turn what you see into the product, and shape, with us, what the product becomes. Few roles let one person own a product's backlog, lead the client relationship and run the deployment.

This is not a background engineering role

Once clients are live, expect to spend much of your time with them: their business teams, their compliance and operations leaders, and their information technology staff. You need to be technical enough to earn the trust of all three, and good enough with people that they want you in the room. If most of your recent work has been data pipelines, infrastructure or platform code with little direct client contact, this is not the right fit.

Why this role exists now

Our product is specified in detail, its first release is being built now, and our first clients follow. We need the person who will be the face of the product at those clients, carry it from the first working session to live use, be the client's voice while the product is built, and take over day-to-day ownership of the product from the founders.

What we do

We build verification-first document software for United States mid-market companies in compliance-heavy industries, where a written answer to a customer is a commitment. The software runs inside each client's own cloud account. Client content stays within environments the client controls, the software sends nothing out on its own, and a named person at the client reviews every answer before it goes out. The venture is founded by two experienced operators and is in stealth.

What you will do

Lead the build

  • Be the client's voice in the build. At each checkpoint, test what has been built against the specification and against real client needs, using our evaluation tools, and recommend acceptance or rejection. A founder decides.
  • Turn each client problem into a clear, reproducible case built on synthetic data, so no client material is ever needed to fix it.

Own the product

  • Own the backlog for our first product: turn what clients tell you into written requirements, set priorities with the founders, and define what goes into each release.
  • Keep the specification current, with every change written down, explained and agreed with a founder.
  • Be the first answer to product questions from clients and the build team, within the boundaries the founders set.
  • Work with the founders on discovery for the next product: which client problem to solve, what the product must do, and how we will know it works.

Own the clients

  • Run working sessions with each client's business and technical teams to understand how their written work gets done today, and propose what success should look like.
  • Lead each deployment alongside the client's information technology staff, under access they grant for the session: setup inside their cloud account, sign-in, connections, and getting their approved content ready.
  • Tune the product with the client, under access they grant for each session, until it performs on their own material. After go-live, run scheduled quality sessions on the same basis: explain in plain language why the system produced what it did, and propose what should change.
  • Draft the technical sections of the security questionnaires our buyers send us, for a founder's sign-off, and join client conversations where a technical voice builds confidence.

Where this role can go

The first release is the beginning, not the job. We are building a company that finds where compliance-heavy companies spend their best people's time on written work, and builds products that do that work faster, to a standard those companies can put their name to. Our first product is one of several we plan for the same clients.

As the company grows, this role can grow with it, for the person who shows they are ready:

  • Find the next problem. Every deployment shows you how a company really works. Spot where that work could be done better, and help shape what we build next.
  • Shape new products. Take a growing hand in designing each new product with our clients, from the first idea to the first deployment.
  • Bring the frontier in. Track what is new in AI, judge what is genuinely ready for companies that cannot afford a wrong answer, and bring the best of it to our clients.
  • Lead. Grow into the company's lead on product and clients alongside the founders: the person our clients trust most, a trusted partner to the founders on the decisions that shape the company, and a leader as the product and client team grows.

None of this is promised on day one. It is the direction we hope the right person grows into, and it is why we call this a founding role. And because your stock option grant is a founding grant, you share in every product we build after the first.

Who this fits

Must-haves

  • You have owned an external client relationship through an implementation, and you can describe a time you told a client no and kept their trust.
  • You have owned product decisions: written requirements that engineers built from, and set priorities using what customers told you.
  • You are comfortable leading a technical deployment with a client's information technology staff, and technical enough with cloud systems, logs and code to diagnose a problem before calling for help.
  • You write and present clearly, to executives and technical teams alike.
  • You have held software you did not write to a specification, and you can describe a release you sent back and why.
  • You read application code, ideally Python, well enough to check a system you did not write against what it promises, and you can run its build and test suite yourself.
  • You can lead both technical discussions and senior executive discussions in English
  • You are obsessed about using AI to improve how you and others work

Strong pluses

  • Experience as a product manager at a company that sells software to businesses.
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services, or reading code such as Python.
  • You have measured the quality of an AI or search system's output with test sets, rather than judging it by eye.
  • Experience with clients in a compliance-heavy industry, or answering security questionnaires.
  • Fluency in Korean is a plus

You might be a product manager who started in solutions or consulting, a technical product manager who would rather be with customers than in planning meetings, a solutions engineer or architect whose client insights shaped a product roadmap, an implementation or engagement lead at a technology consultancy, or a forward-deployed engineer at an AI company.

How you are paid

This is built for someone who wants to own part of what they build. You receive a significant founding stock option grant, the kind usually reserved for a company's first technical person, vesting over time with acceleration at each milestone. During the build, cash is paid for each checkpoint review you complete, whatever its outcome, and at each client installation that goes live. Once our first clients are live, cash moves to a market day rate. It will not compete with a salary during the build; it is designed to compete on what you own in three years. This is an independent contract engagement to begin with, and the grant is made once our option plan is adopted, subject to board approval. We are hoping you can help grow this role into a full-time position.
