Credit Specialist on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, the third largest producer of Canadian oil and natural gas and the second largest refiner and upgrader with extensive midstream and downstream infrastructure.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The Credit Specialist in this role will be responsible for managing daily counterparty credit exposures and business relationships within the controls and credit risk appetite outlined in the Credit Policy, Standards, and Procedures. Success in this role requires strong financial and technical analytical skills, the ability to collaborate effectively, and the capability to build and manage relationships with both external counterparties and internal stakeholders, including other members of the credit team. The Sr. Credit Analyst assesses risk and makes timely decisions within established policies and procedures while demonstrating strong business acumen. The role requires the ability to independently complete complex credit reviews, make timely decisions on counterparty credit limits, ratings, and terms, and maintain ownership of credit scoring models. Additionally, the role provides input and direction into contract and collateral negotiations, applies appropriate mitigation strategies, and monitors and reports exposure across various ETRM systems and credit tools.
Responsibilities
- Monitor daily credit exposures within approved credit limits and tenors, ensuring compliance with the Credit Policy, Standards, and Procedures across all business segments.
- Conduct ongoing credit analysis by interpreting internal and external market intelligence to identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Complete complex credit reviews across a wide range of counterparties and provide recommendations for approval in accordance with the Delegation of Authority.
- Contribute to daily, monthly, and quarterly credit reporting and portfolio monitoring activities.
- Own and maintain quantitative scoring models which support portfolio benchmarking analysis.
- Support contract and collateral negotiations while actively monitoring counterparty and portfolio exposures.
- Act as a key liaison to the business, supporting new counterparty requests and advising on deal structures while building strong internal and external relationships.
- Leverage knowledge of commodity trading markets, ETRM systems, and technical tools (Power BI, Power Automate and Databricks) to support data analysis, reporting, and process automation
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant credit experience in the energy industry with understanding of both physical and financial markets.
- Proven ability to independently conduct complex credit reviews, assess counterparty risk, and assign credit limits, ratings, and terms in alignment with established Credit Policy and the Delegation of Authority.
- Daily monitoring and management of counterparty credit exposures and tenors across various business segments, ensuring strict compliance with internal standards and ETRM systems.
- Demonstrated capability to provide strategic input and direction into contract and collateral negotiations while applying effective risk mitigation strategies.
- Ownership and maintenance of quantitative credit scoring models for portfolio benchmarking, paired with technical proficiency in tools like Power BI, Power Automate, and Databricks for data analysis and automation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to act as a key liaison to internal stakeholders and external counterparties, advising on deal structures and new counterparty requests.
- Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance or a related discipline.
- CFA designation considered an asset
