Our Client is a globally competitive integrated energy company that extracts, produces and provides energy from a mix of sources, ranging from oil sands to renewable fuels.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description

The Electrical Engineer will join our client’s team at the Mildred Lake Plant in Fort McMurray. In this role, you will be a key technical resource focused on maximizing the safety, reliability, and availability of Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) assets. You will drive reliability improvements, provide technical support for major projects and sustaining operations, and ensure full compliance with industry and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Asset Reliability & Asset Management: Develop scopes of work prioritizing safety, reliability, quality, and asset availability. Lead and implement techniques for bad actors, conduct life cycle assessments, and perform equipment/system reliability analyses.
  • Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis: Investigate equipment upsets, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and provide actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Condition Monitoring: Assess equipment reliability utilizing online condition-based tools, including transformer oil analysis, partial discharge testing, I/R Corona scanning, online monitoring, and offline testing.
  • Project Support & Commissioning: Provide technical support for sustaining and major capital projects, including scoping studies, model and document reviews, system studies, datasheets, detailed designs, and commissioning. Ensure seamless integration of system additions without impacting existing capacity.
  • Design & Compliance: Develop E&I installation drawings, datasheets, and specifications in strict compliance with industry codes, safety standards, and client requirements.
  • Risk Management: Participate as an active member of risk review teams, providing leadership in loss management techniques, such as the Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) process.

Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of progressively responsible engineering experience in maintenance and/or reliability engineering, with a strong focus on E&I engineering and high-voltage electrical equipment.
  • Proven experience with the Management of Change (MOC) process and workflow, as well as SAP Plant Maintenance (CMMS) or similar computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Experience in the application, selection, and installation of field instruments, control valves, and Electrical Heat Trace (EHT) systems.
  • Detailed understanding of applicable electrical design codes and standards, including CSA 22.3, AUEC, NETA, CSA-Z463, and CSA-Z462, as well as Hazardous Area installations.
  • Deep knowledge of power transformers, circuit breakers, instrument transformers, protection relays, power cables, transmission lines, disconnect switches, and electrical substations.
  • Working knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
  • Expertise in design, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of E&I equipment.
  • Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Professional Designation: Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
