Job Overview
- The Financial Reporting Analyst plays a key role in supporting the Enbridge Gas Inc. (EGI) finance function through complex accounting analysis, accounting research, and financial reporting activities. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, supporting external financial reporting requirements, evaluating accounting implications of business transactions, and driving process improvements. The successful candidate will collaborate across multiple business functions to resolve accounting issues, maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, and deliver timely financial reporting and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex accounting analyses and research to support the EGI finance group and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Prepare and maintain reporting schedules that support quarterly and annual external financial filings, management reporting, and General Accounting & Affiliates reporting requirements.
- Partner with stakeholders across the organization to research, resolve, and communicate accounting issues and their appropriate treatment.
- Identify, analyze, and escalate potential accounting concerns to ensure timely resolution and accurate financial reporting.
- Review contracts and business agreements prior to execution to assess accounting implications and recommend appropriate treatment.
- Support month-end and quarter-end close activities, including preparation, analysis, and review of financial information.
- Research, evaluate, and document complex accounting matters, including preparation of accounting memoranda and technical accounting assessments.
- Translate complex accounting concepts into clear business impacts and present findings and recommendations to management.
- Lead and support process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve reporting accuracy.
- Respond to ad hoc financial analysis requests and participate in special projects as required.
- Maintain effective internal controls and ensure compliance with SOX and other regulatory requirements.
- Monitor developments in accounting standards and maintain current knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
- Ensure financial information and analysis are delivered accurately and within established deadlines.
- Promote continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline processes and enhance operational effectiveness.
- Ensure established policies, procedures, and controls are consistently followed.
Working Relationships
- EGI Finance Department: Partner with finance teams to obtain information, resolve accounting matters, prepare reporting schedules, and develop accounting documentation.
- Business Development & Energy Services: Collaborate on accounting and financial reporting matters related to business activities and transactions.
- Corporate Financial Reporting Teams: Support reporting requirements, provide deliverables, and coordinate on financial reporting initiatives.
- Accounting Research Subject Matter Experts: Consult on technical accounting matters and accounting research activities as required.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- CPA designation with a minimum of four years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex accounting matters to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience presenting analyses and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build relationships and gain cooperation across multiple stakeholder groups.
- High degree of professional judgment, integrity, and ethical conduct.
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and perform under tight deadlines, including occasional overtime requirements.
Preferred
- Experience with Oracle, SAP, and Hyperion SmartView.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting research.
- Public accounting experience.
- External financial reporting experience.
- Experience within the energy, utilities, or related regulated industries.
