Original job description

AI & Data Consulting | Office Leadership & Growth

Calgary, AB (Hybrid)
Full-time, permanent position
C$175,000–C$200,000 annually
Opportunity to establish and lead a new Calgary office

Raise has partnered with a growing, AI-first data and engineering consulting firm that helps mid-market and enterprise organizations leverage Generative AI, Agentic AI, data analytics, and intelligent automation to solve complex business challenges and drive measurable results.

Combining deep business expertise with modern technology platforms, our client delivers practical, scalable solutions that create meaningful business impact.

Now, they're looking for someone to build and lead their Calgary operation.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced technology consulting professional who brings together technical expertise, proven people leadership, strategic thinking, and strong client relationships.

We're looking for someone who understands what it takes to build a successful consulting business, from developing a thoughtful market strategy and recruiting the right talent to leading client engagements and establishing a high-performing local team.

This is not a traditional sales or business development role.

Success requires more than an established network or the ability to generate new business. You'll need the technical credibility to engage directly in client solution discussions, the leadership experience to build and manage a team, and the strategic mindset to turn a new market opportunity into a sustainable business.

You'll work directly with the founders and executive leadership, with significant autonomy and accountability for establishing the Calgary office and shaping its long-term success.

Whether you've previously helped build a practice or are ready to take the next step into broader business leadership, this is an opportunity to make a tangible impact.

What You'll Be Doing

Client Relationships & Market Strategy

Build and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with senior executives and business leaders across Calgary's business community.
Develop a clear, actionable go-to-market strategy that identifies target industries, priority accounts, service opportunities, and measurable growth objectives.
Establish strategic partnerships and build credibility within Calgary's technology and business communities.
Identify opportunities to expand client relationships while maintaining accountability for service quality and successful delivery.

Office Development, Planning & Operations

Collaborate with the founders and executive leadership to align the Calgary operation with the company's broader strategic objectives.
Develop and execute a comprehensive plan to establish, operate, and grow the Calgary office – balancing sales and client relationships, people leadership, project delivery, and business performance
Define the organizational structure, resource and hiring priorities, service development, and operational processes needed to build a successful local consulting practice.
Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of consulting and technical professionals – fostering a team environment that enables exceptional client delivery
Establish clear performance expectations, KPIs, and measurable milestones across client engagement, consulting delivery, team development, and commercial performance to guide the office's development.

Consulting & Technical Leadership

Lead and contribute to client engagements, bringing practical experience in technology consulting, solution development, and project delivery.
Conversant with technical discussions involving AI, data engineering, analytics, cloud technologies and solution architecture.
Translate complex business challenges into practical technology solutions, collaborating with engineering and delivery teams to determine appropriate solutions.
Oversee consulting engagements to ensure projects are delivered effectively, client expectations are met, and business outcomes are achieved.
Serve as a credible bridge between executive stakeholders, technical teams, and consulting delivery resources.

What You'll Bring

7+ years of progressive experience in technology consulting, IT professional services, or a related technical consulting environment.
Proven people leadership experience, with responsibility for managing, developing, and mentoring technical or consulting teams.
Previous hands-on experience in software development, data engineering, solution architecture, or technical implementation.
The ability to independently participate in technical discovery and solution discussions, understand engineering approaches, and collaborate effectively with technical specialists.
Experience developing and executing business plans, go-to-market strategies, or consulting practice growth initiatives.
Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of services-based consulting, including project scoping, resource planning, delivery accountability, and client relationship management.
Experience building relationships with senior executives and translating business needs into actionable consulting opportunities.
Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate productive discussions and engage diverse stakeholders.
Strong organizational and decision-making skills, with the ability to establish priorities, develop actionable plans, and hold teams accountable.
An entrepreneurial mindset, sound judgment, and the confidence to lead an operation with significant autonomy.
Experience establishing a new office, launching a consulting practice, or expanding a regional operation is a nice to have.
An established professional network within Calgary or Alberta's business community.
Experience delivering consulting services to Oil & Gas, Energy, Financial Services, or large enterprise clients.
A degree or professional background in computer science, engineering, information technology, data science, or a related discipline.
Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, Databricks, Snowflake, or modern AI and data platforms preferred but not required.

Who Will Thrive in This Role?

We're looking for a well-rounded consulting leader who can see the big picture while understanding what it takes to execute.

Someone who can build strong relationships with executive stakeholders, confidently participate in technical discussions, and lead a team through the successful delivery of complex consulting engagements.

You'll Be Successful Here If You

Lead by example: You bring meaningful consulting and technical experience, allowing you to guide teams and contribute to client solutions.
Think strategically: You can develop a thoughtful business plan, establish meaningful KPIs, and articulate how you'll build a successful operation.
Build great teams: You have experience identifying talent, developing people, and creating an environment where teams can succeed.
Understand the technology: You don't need to be the most technical person in the room, but you can independently engage in engineering and solution conversations.
Build relationships through trust: You value listening, collaboration, and understanding client needs over transactional selling.
Take ownership: You're comfortable making decisions, solving problems, and being accountable for the success of a growing business.
Balance vision with execution: You can set a strategic direction while remaining actively involved in the work required to achieve it.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

Build a business. Build a team. Make your mark.

This is an opportunity to take on a meaningful leadership role within a growing technology consulting organization, with the freedom to influence how an entirely new office is established and developed.

Rather than inheriting an existing team and predetermined business model, you'll have the opportunity to shape the Calgary operation, from its market strategy and client relationships to its hiring priorities and consulting capabilities.

You'll work directly with the founders and executive leadership, combining the support and expertise of an established organization with the autonomy and ownership of an entrepreneurial venture.

For an experienced consulting professional ready to step into broader leadership, this could be the career-defining opportunity you've been looking for.

And for someone who has already built and led a successful consulting practice, it's an opportunity to bring that experience to a growing organization operating at the forefront of AI and data transformation.

If you're ready to combine your technical consulting expertise, leadership experience, and entrepreneurial ambition to build something meaningful, we'd love to connect.
