Description
The Project Engineer in this role will support the delivery of sustaining and capital projects across our sites. This contract role is focused on technical integration rather than discipline design or project management. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary engineering efforts, coordinate technical interfaces, maintain continuity of the engineering solution, and ensure projects are technically ready to support key project decisions, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities. The ideal candidate is a highly collaborative engineer who is comfortable working across engineering disciplines, project management, operations, maintenance, construction, commissioning, and external consultants. The role requires sound judgement, practical leadership, and the ability to move work forward in complex or ambiguous project environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical integration across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Coordinate engineering activities through project planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
- Develop and maintain engineering scope, assumptions, constraints, interfaces, and technical decisions.
- Support engineering readiness, design reviews, constructability reviews, commissionability reviews, and project stage-gate reviews.
- Coordinate internal engineering resources and external engineering consultants.
- Identify technical risks, integration gaps, and readiness concerns, and drive them toward resolution.
- Facilitate alignment between engineering, operations, maintenance, construction, project management, commissioning, and other project stakeholders.
- Support development and maintenance of engineering schedules, execution plans, estimates, and resource requirements.
- Coordinate technical inputs to procurement packages, bid evaluations, vendor reviews, and post-award technical activities.
- Provide technical leadership during field execution, including resolution of RFIs, design changes, field conditions, and commissioning issues.
- Ensure engineering deliverables are complete, appropriately reviewed, and aligned with applicable requirements, codes, standards, and project objectives.
- Promote clear communication, practical decision-making, and continuity of the engineering solution throughout the project lifecycle.
- 8+ years of engineering and project delivery experience in mining, industrial processing, energy, infrastructure, or a comparable heavy industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering efforts on capital or sustaining projects.
- Experience coordinating engineering consultants and multiple engineering disciplines.
- Strong understanding of project delivery, technical oversight, engineering reviews, procurement, construction, and commissioning processes.
- Strong communication, facilitation, organization, and technical decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively across functions, locations, and organizations, including in situations where scope or responsibilities are still being defined.
- Ability to travel to work locations as required.
- Recommended:
- Experience working in regulated industrial environments.
- Experience supporting mining, uranium processing, or other complex industrial facilities.
- Experience with owner-side project engineering, engineering readiness, technical governance, and consultant oversight.
- Familiarity with project controls, change management, document control, turnover, and operational readiness processes.
- Experience working with geographically distributed teams and remote operating sites.
- Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered, or eligible for registration, with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS).
- Primary work location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
- Hybrid work arrangement with time spent between corporate office and remote (to be discussed).
- Intermittent travel to operating sites in northern Saskatchewan, Ontario, or other locations may be required.
