Raise is currently hiring a Project Engineer - Generation – Stations on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada

Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.

Description

The Project Engineer – Generation (Stations) to join the Project Engineering team within Generation Engineering. The engineering teams play an integral role in delivering critical infrastructure projects safely, effectively, and in alignment with our clients standards.

In this role, you will manage the engineering components - including scope, schedule, and cost - of large, high-profile, and technically complex projects. Typical projects include new generating units, powerhouse reconstructions, major plant or unit upgrades, dam safety initiatives, and spillway upgrades. You will have the opportunity to work across the total project lifecycle, from conceptual design through to testing and commissioning.

Responsibilities

General Accountabilities
Develop safe, innovative engineering solutions by using initiative and judgment to perform tasks, analyze and resolve problems, and interpret specifications on complex assignments.
Meet safety, cost, quality, and time objectives by proposing plan changes, reviewing contractor payments, preparing progress reports, and coordinating work schedules.
Resolve highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems through independent studies, analysis, and sound technical judgment.
Contribute to technical standards, guide engineering methods and designs, and mentor other professionals to build future departmental capability.
Define engineering scope of services, establish design criteria, approve technical documentation, and report on work progress to internal and external stakeholders.
Technical Decision Making: Make complex technical recommendations and decisions regarding design bases, criteria, resource management, and major engineering work assignments.
Role-Specific Accountabilities
Coordinate and lead internal reviews and acceptance of engineering work performed by external third parties, consultants, or equipment vendors.
Collaborate closely with Project Managers to tightly manage the technical scope, schedule, and cost of medium-to-large projects.
Identify and manage project technical risks, including system integration with existing generation infrastructure.
stablish design/review plans, schedules, and resource requirements, coordinating the development of specifications, drawings, and consultant contracts.
Collaborate with construction, contract management, quality management, and field operations teams to provide timely technical support during manufacturing, installation, and commissioning.
Brief senior management and executives on complex issues, and coach project team members and fellow project engineers.

Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years of progressive, comprehensive engineering experience with a primary focus in the design of hydroelectric power plants, dams, and associated equipment. Lifecycle experience from conceptual design to commissioning is an asset.
Minimum of 4 years leading and coordinating multi-discipline design or engineering work on medium-to-large projects comparable in size and complexity
Solid electric utility engineering background with a strong understanding of generation systems, operations, and multi-discipline project priorities.
Experience managing Owner's reviews of external engineering work, familiarity with project delivery processes, and field experience on large construction sites (hydroelectric stations, dams, or substations).
Good working knowledge of project management principles, processes, and roles.
Advanced written and oral communication skills, with the ability to brief senior management clearly on complex matters and influence internal and external stakeholders.
Advanced decision-making, conflict resolution, and technical problem-solving capabilities.
A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is required.
Education and Certifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical preferred).
P.Eng and will be required to Provide Proof of Permit to Practice, registered with EGBC when hired
Required to subscribe to a digital sign and seal technology service via Notarius.

Additional Information

Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.

Every contractor must supply their own “Smart Phone”. This is needed to gain access to the Organizations network.
