About the Role
We are seeking a Safety Generalist to join our Safety Management Services team supporting operations at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in Richmond, BC. This is an entry-level opportunity designed for a recent Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) graduate looking to build hands-on experience in a diverse operating environment.
Working alongside experienced safety professionals, you’ll support day-to-day health and safety activities across terminal, airside, groundside, and active construction areas.
You’ll gain practical experience in inspections, hazard assessments, incident support, safety documentation, orientations, and worker engagement while developing toward increased independence and progression into a Safety Advisor role.
What You'll Be Working On
- Conduct workplace inspections across operational and construction areas, documenting hazards, findings, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and review field-level hazard assessments, job hazard analyses, and pre-task plans with workers and supervisors.
- Deliver worker orientations, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
- Support safety permit processes, including hot work, confined space, lockout, and airside work.
- Assist with incident response, evidence collection, witness statements, and initial incident reporting.
- Identify and communicate workplace hazards and support timely corrective actions.
- Draft and update safe work practices, procedures, and site-specific safety documentation.
- Maintain accurate training records, inspection logs, corrective actions, and safety meeting documentation.
- Compile safety statistics and support the preparation of reports and dashboards.
- Support COR audit preparation and ongoing safety program requirements.
- Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and track follow-up actions.
- Build positive working relationships with workers, supervisors, contractors, and client representatives.
- Maintain awareness of applicable provincial and federal health and safety requirements.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and work toward industry safety designations.
What We're Looking For
- Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from BCIT or an equivalent two-year OHS diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution; or a degree in a related field combined with an OHS certificate.
- 0–2 years of experience in health and safety, construction, industrial, or field operations, including practicum or co-op experience.
- Exposure to a working site environment through employment, practicum, co-op, or trades experience.
- Foundational knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, and the hierarchy of controls.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear reports and deliver safety briefings.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate safety records and follow-up activities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to learn safety management and reporting systems.
- Valid BC Class 5 driver's licence with a clean driver's abstract.
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 or willingness to obtain within three months of hire.
- Eligible and willing to obtain the NCSO designation within the first year of employment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required airport security clearances and complete required airside training.
- Available to work a full-time rotating schedule that includes day and evening shifts.
- CSO/NCSO certification, COR Internal Auditor training, or previous exposure to construction, airport, transportation, utilities, or similar operational environments is considered an asset.
Compensation & Benefits
The estimated annual base salary for this position is $55,000 - $65,000 as of the posting date. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and training.
