Archived listing. The details below describe a past opening.

Randstad has partnered with a national distributor of industrial fluid handling and finishing solutions to recruit an Engineering Technologist for their team in Calgary or Edmonton. Our client serves key Canadian industries, including industrial manufacturing, oil & gas, mining, power generation, water/wastewater, and pulp & paper.

Role Overview

Serving as the technical backbone of the company’s Finishing Division (Powder Coating, Liquid Finishing, & Adhesives), this position bridges technical design and sales. Working alongside the Business Development Manager (BDM), you will lead customer requirements gathering, design integrated systems, generate accurate proposals, and manage projects through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Requirements & Solution Design: Lead structured client discovery meetings to capture operational constraints, throughput requirements, and regulatory needs. Design integrated finishing solutions (booths, spray equipment, ovens, conveyors) using the client's product catalog.
  • Quoting & Technical Sales Support: Build detailed proposals, partner with the BDM during client discussions, coordinate pricing with major OEMs (e.g., Graco, Nordson, GFS), and create plant layouts in AutoCAD.
  • Project Management: Manage post-sale projects end-to-end. Track scope, schedules, timelines, and deliverables to ensure high quality and complete final project documentation.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the internal finishing systems expert, assisting service teams and clients with troubleshooting and technical support.
  • Process & CRM Management: Maintain precise project, quote, and pipeline records within NetSuite CRM/ERP.

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of a Mechanical, Chemical/Process, or Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering Technologist program. A Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation is an asset.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience with industrial paint finishing, powder coating, or related processing/packaging lines. Background in fluid mechanics, hydraulics, or fluid handling systems is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (plant layouts) and NetSuite (or similar ERP/CRM).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for building and maintaining estimating tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and equipment specs.
  • Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with OEM equipment manufacturers such as Graco, Nordson, or Global Finishing Solutions (GFS) is a strong preference.

What the Client Offers

  • Long-Term Stability: Exceptional company retention with an average employee tenure of over 10 years.
  • Total Rewards: Competitive base salary paired with an attractive bonus structure.
  • Work Environment: A collaborative, supportive team dynamic with opportunities for professional growth.
  • Industry Leadership: Work directly with premier product lines and top-tier industrial clients across Western Canada.
