About the Opportunity

We are currently recruiting on behalf of an established Calgary-based engineering and manufacturing firm specializing in thermal engineering and advanced industrial equipment. With decades of proven technical excellence, our client provides reliable, custom-engineered equipment for demanding operating environments across various sectors.

They are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Estimator to join their multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will bridge technical and commercial functions, collaborating closely with Engineering, Sales, and Operations to prepare competitive proposals and support project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proposal Oversight: Coordinate the end-to-end development of detailed commercial proposals from initial receipt to contract award.
  • Technical Estimating & Design: Develop comprehensive cost models using internal design standards and estimating procedures; assist in the design of process equipment such as flare stacks, incinerators, and flame arrestors.
  • Client & Inquiry Evaluation: Review client RFQ/RFP packages and contract specifications, route deliverables to internal teams, and act as a key contact for clarifications, negotiations, and scope alignment.
  • Commercial Collaboration: Partner with Sales to qualify leads, track project opportunities, build client relationships, and finalize commercial agreements.
  • Cross-Functional Execution: Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality Control to verify that scope deliverables, pricing, and project specifications align.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in estimate-to-actual reviews and closeout meetings to refine historical estimating metrics, systems, and tools.

Core Accountabilities

  • Proposals: Accuracy and delivery of technical proposals, cost models, client relationship management, and contractual alignment.
  • Project Execution: Financial precision, contractual compliance, and risk mitigation across commercial agreements.
  • Quality & Standards: Design suitability and compliance with all technical, internal, and external specifications.
  • Health & Safety: Active contribution to a safe, positive, and collaborative workplace culture.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of project estimating experience within a custom fabrication or manufacturing setting.
  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical fabrication/technical experience.
  • Blueprint Reading: Strong proficiency in interpreting mechanical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications.
  • Sales Exposure: Proven track record working effectively in a dynamic, commercially driven environment.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.

Preferred Assets

  • Registration or eligibility with APEGA or ASET.
  • Prior commercial experience with process equipment, waste gas destruction, combustion systems (flares, incinerators, arrestors), or heat transfer technologies.
  • Hands-on experience using CRM platforms such as Salesforce
