You will gain hands-on experience with job costing, progress billing, and month-end closing processes while growing your career within a dynamic industry. This is a fully onsite role and 3 month contract to start with a strong potential to convert to permanent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Invoice Management: Receive, review, and process high volumes of vendor and subcontractor invoices, ensuring accurate coding to specific jobs, phases, and cost codes.
- Purchase Orders & Matching: Perform three-way matching of purchase orders, receiving tickets, and invoices to verify accuracy before routing for approval.
- Payment Processing: Assist in the preparation of weekly cheque runs, EFT payments, and wire transfers, while maintaining up-to-date vendor files and responding to payment inquiries.
Project Tracking & Financial Support:
- Job Costing Support: Assist the Senior Project Accountant in updating and maintaining project budgets, tracking change orders, and analyzing budget-to-actual cost variances.
- Progress Billings: Help compile backup documentation for monthly progress billings (e.g., AIA documents, statutory declarations, and WSIB clearance certificates).
- Document Management: Maintain organized and compliant project files, ensuring all contracts, holdback releases, and insurance certificates are current and properly filed.
Month-End Close & Reconciliations:
- Reconciliations: Perform monthly bank and corporate credit card reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and coded.
- Journal Entries: Prepare and post standard journal entries, accruals, and intercompany transactions during the month-end close cycle.
- Audit Assistance: Support the finance team during year-end audits by gathering requested documentation and preparing basic financial schedules.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Designation: Actively pursuing or intending to pursue a CPA designation is considered a strong asset.
- Experience: 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role. Previous exposure to the construction, real estate, or engineering industry is highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles (A/P, A/R, reconciliations) and basic job costing concepts.
- Systems Expertise: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables). Experience with project-based ERP or construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Procore, Jonas, or Yardi) is a definite plus.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders (e.g., Project Managers).
