Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst with deep domain expertise in Residential and/or Commercial Mortgages to bridge the gap between business operations and technical delivery teams. In this role, you will be responsible for eliciting, analyzing, and documenting business and functional requirements across the end-to-end mortgage lifecycle - including customer origination, adjudication/underwriting, credit decisioning, document management, compliance/regulatory reporting, funding, and loan servicing.

You will work closely with Mortgage Product Owners, Underwriters, Risk & Credit Officers, Loan Operations, and Engineering squads to modernize lending platforms, automate operational workflows, and enhance the digital borrower and broker experience.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Experience: 5+ years of Business Analysis experience within the financial services or fintech sector, with a mandatory 3+ years dedicated to the Mortgage or Secured Lending domain.
Mortgage Domain Depth: Comprehensive understanding of the full mortgage loan lifecycle (pre-qualification, application intake, credit assessment, income verification, debt service calculations (GDS/TDS), underwriting conditions, document management, funding, and servicing).
Platform & System Familiarity: Working with recognized Mortgage Origination Systems (LOS) or platforms (e.g., Finastra Expert, Filogix, Encompass, nCino, Temenos, or proprietary core banking/lending platforms).
Agile Competence: Strong proficiency in Agile/Scrum delivery models, user story authoring, backlog grooming, and requirement management using tools like Jira, Confluence, and MS Azure DevOps.
Data & Process Tools: Proficiency in process modeling using MS Visio, Miro, or Lucidchart (BPMN standards) and solid ability to query databases using basic-to-intermediate SQL for data verification and reporting.
Communication & Stakeholder Management: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to lead workshops, challenge legacy processes constructively, and present complex workflows to executive stakeholders.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

Professional certifications such as CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional), CCBA, PMI-PBA, or Scrum Master (CSM/PSPO).
Experience with open banking initiatives, mortgage API integrations, automated document extraction (OCR/AI), or digital closing/e-signature workflows.
Familiarity with Canadian regulatory guidelines (e.g., OSFI Guideline B-20, mortgage default insurance processes via CMHC, Sagen, or Canada Guaranty).

Domain - Banking/Finance/Insurance
