Original job description
Senior Workday Functional Analyst – Human Capital Management (HCM), Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
Number of positions:1, 12-Month Contract (Strong Contract-to-Hire Potential)
Location: Greater Toronto Area (GTA), ON or Calgary, AB
Work Model: Hybrid (4 days/week on-site, Mon–Thu)
Must be eligible to work in Canada
Roles and responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced Senior HRIS Functional Analyst to serve as the functional lead for Workday Core HCM and Workday Recruitment. In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex multi-banner HR policies and technical execution - leading end-to-end enhancements, cyclical HR events, and system optimizations across a large-scale enterprise. Working in an Agile/Scrum environment, you will partner closely with business product owners, internal solution architects, and an established offshore development team to translate business requirements into seamless Workday solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Functional Ownership: Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Workday Core HCM and Talent Acquisition/Recruitment, leading continuous business process enhancements, condition/eligibility rules, notifications, and setup values.
- Requirements & Configuration: Collaborate with HR business stakeholders to gather requirements, design scalable functional solutions, build and test Enterprise Interface Builders (EIBs) for mass data updates, and oversee testing in lower environments.
- Offshore & Vendor Collaboration: Coordinate with offshore developers to manage technical deliverables, resolve defects, and track incidents/enhancements via Jira, ServiceNow, and Q-test.
- Releases & Cyclical Support: Lead functional testing, impact analysis, and deployment for Workday’s semi-annual release cycles, as well as seasonal HR processes (e.g., annual benefits open enrollment, compensation cycles).
- Roadmap Projects: Support ongoing enterprise transformation initiatives, including time tracking and scheduling consolidation into Workday.
- Agile Participation: Actively participate in quarterly PI planning sessions, balancing planned roadmap epics with high-priority production support issues.
Qualifications & Experience
- Workday Expertise: 5+ years of deep, hands-on functional configuration and administration experience specifically in Workday Core HCM and Workday Recruitment.
- Certifications: Official Workday certifications (HCM Core and/or Recruitment) are strongly preferred.
- Enterprise Scale: Proven experience supporting complex, multi-entity, multi-location, or distributed workforces (retail, distribution centers, or large hourly/seasonal environments highly regarded).
- Cross-Module Exposure: Working functional knowledge of related Workday modules (Compensation, Benefits, Absence, Time Tracking, Learning, or Payroll) is a strong asset.
- Data & Security: Solid understanding of Workday domain/business process security, HR data privacy standards, and tenant audit compliance.
- Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication skills with a proven track record of managing cross-functional relationships across HR, IT, and offshore technical resources.
