QA Engineer - & Payment Systems

Number of openings: 1, 12-Month Contract

Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – minimum 3 days per week on-site)

Roles and responsibilities:

A leading global financial institution is seeking an experienced QA Consultant specializing in Treasury, Payments, and Transaction Services to join its enterprise technology team.

In this role, you will lead quality engineering, integration verification, and data integrity validation across mission-critical wholesale banking and payment applications. You will support multiple concurrent projects across both Agile and Waterfall methodologies in a fast-paced environment, working closely with business analysts, solution architects, and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Test Strategy & Execution: Design, build, and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and execution artifacts across all testing phases, including Unit Integration, System Integration Testing (SIT), Regression, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
Treasury & Payment Validation: Conduct rigorous functional and end-to-end testing for core transaction processing, wire transfers, clearing systems, and settlement services.
ETL & Data Conversion Testing: Validate complex data conversions across multiple formats (File-to-File, File-to-Database, and Database-to-File). Verify data mappings, workflows, sessions, and middleware integration jobs.
Data Integrity & Metadata Governance: Perform proactive system and data analysis. Monitor metadata management, run data quality checks, and troubleshoot/resolve data integrity issues.
Automation Engineering: Develop and maintain automated test scripts leveraging Core Java, Selenium, Cucumber (BDD), and TestNG.
API & Messaging Layer Testing: Validate REST/SOAP web services, parsing and generating data payloads across XML, XPath, and standard banking messaging formats.
Backend Database & Log Analysis: Craft complex SQL queries across relational database environments (Oracle preferred) and use UNIX shell scripting to inspect server logs and stage test data.
Defect Triage & Reporting: Drive root-cause analysis, defect triage, and resolution tracking in collaboration with development and project stakeholders.

Qualifications & Technical Skills

Domain Experience: 5+ years of dedicated quality assurance experience in Treasury, Payments, Cash Management, or Transaction Banking.

Programming & Automation: 5+ years of hands-on experience with Core Java, Cucumber, TestNG, and VB Scripting.
Database & SQL: 4+ years of database and ETL/Data Warehouse testing experience, with advanced proficiency in writing complex multi-table SQL queries (Oracle preferred).
Data Conversion Testing: 4+ years validating complex file/data conversions and middleware execution workflows.
Messaging & File Parsing: 3+ years of experience working with XML, XPath, Regular Expressions (RegEx), and standard banking file formats.
UNIX & Shell Scripting: Practical proficiency with basic UNIX commands and shell scripts for environment navigation and log analysis.
Tools & Frameworks: Familiarity with Eclipse or NetBeans IDEs, Git/Bitbucket version control, Litmus, and API/Web Services testing suites.
Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging capabilities in complex, enterprise-grade architectures.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent technical field.
