Roles and responsibilities:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to support, optimize, and modernize mission-critical database platforms across an enterprise hybrid environment. This role centers on core IBM Db2 administration with secondary Oracle database support, emphasizing high availability, disaster recovery, security, and progressive automation.

Candidates with deep IBM Db2 expertise who are eager to expand into cloud, OpenShift, and containerized platforms are strongly encouraged to apply - on-the-job training in these emerging areas will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

• Database Administration & Reliability: Manage, configure, patch, upgrade, and monitor enterprise IBM Db2 and Oracle databases across production, non-production, and disaster recovery environments.
• HA/DR & Business Continuity: Oversee high-availability and disaster recovery architectures (e.g., Oracle Data Guard, Db2 HADR), executing recurring recovery tests to safeguard strict RPO and RTO standards.
• Performance Optimization: Diagnose and resolve complex database, memory, OS, and storage bottlenecks; perform proactive query tuning and capacity planning.
• Automation & CI/CD: Build scripts to automate routine operations, health checks, patching, and provisioning using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or Ansible. Support database change automation through CI/CD pipelines.
• Security & Governance: Enforce database hardening, least-privilege access, auditing, encryption, and compliance remediation.
• Platform Evolution: Provide secondary support for SQL Server/PostgreSQL and assist with the modernization of database workloads toward containerized environments (OpenShift/Kubernetes).

Must have skills/experience/qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on database administration experience in enterprise, high-availability, or transaction-heavy environments.
• Strong hands-on IBM DB2 expertise (installation, maintenance, backup/recovery, tuning, troubleshooting, and lifecycle management).
• Solid working knowledge of Oracle Database (architecture, RMAN, HA/DR, and patching).
• Scripting capabilities in at least one modern language (Python, Bash, PowerShell, or Ansible).
• Infrastructure literacy: Familiarity with Linux/Windows platforms, storage fundamentals, and networking basics.
• Growth mindset: Enthusiasm for learning container technologies (Docker/OpenShift) and hybrid cloud architectures.

Nice-to-Have

• Exposure to PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience with CI/CD database deployment tools and source control.
• Relevant Db2, Oracle, or Cloud/Kubernetes certifications.
