Software Developer & IT Systems Specialist
Location: Milton, ON (100% On-Site, 5 days/week)
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Compensation: $80,000 – $100,000 annually (commensurate with experience) + Profit Sharing & Annual Performance Bonus
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a highly adaptable, hands-on Software Developer & IT Systems Specialist to join our team in Milton. In this dynamic role, approximately 60% of your time will be focused on application and custom web development, with the remaining 40% split between SQL/Data Warehouse management, system enhancements, and hands-on technical support across our office and warehouse operations.

Key Responsibilities
Application Development & Continuous Improvement (~60%)
- Work directly with business users to gather requirements, design, code, test, and maintain web-based and digital applications.
- Perform systems analysis on business challenges, providing cost/benefit analysis and defining clear technical specs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance enterprise solution efficiencies and streamline localized operational systems.
- Evaluate new development tools, databases, and methodologies to support software modernization.
- Maintain thorough documentation for application software solutions, metadata, and processes to support ongoing development and migrations.
Data & SQL Database Administration
- Maintain and optimize SQL Server databases within a Data Warehouse environment.
- Write, tune, and refine complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and User-Defined Functions (UDFs).
- Utilize SQL profilers and diagnostic scripts to enhance query performance, data integrity, and input/output processing.
- Assist in developing and maintaining data structures, ETL/SSIS processes, and reporting solutions.
Technical & Operational Support
- Provide hands-on end-user and helpdesk support across office systems and warehouse operations.
- Troubleshoot production systems, perform root-cause analysis, and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Communicate project updates, milestones, and technical status clearly to project stakeholders, team members, and leadership.
- Provide occasional after-hours/on-call support as needed for mission-critical system reliability.
Qualifications & Requirements
Mandatory Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s University Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field with a strong focus on programming (Required).
- Experience: 5+ years of related IT/development experience, including at least 2+ years of dedicated SQL DBA/Developer experience within a Data Warehouse context.
- On-Site Presence: Must be able to work 5 days per week on-site at our Milton location.
Technical Skills & Expertise
- Strong hands-on experience in client/server application development, architecture, database connectivity, and relational database design.
- Expertise in SQL Server, T-SQL performance tuning, indexing, and stored procedure development.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, Visual Basic, ASP, JavaScript, or VBScript.
- Experience with data integrity, data retention strategies, and data flow architecture.
Preferred / Asset Skills
- Hands-on experience or familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) or warehouse automation tech.
- Experience with Power BI, SSIS, and SSRS.
- Knowledge of Telerik tools and web server administration.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and Microsoft Azure DevOps.
- Project management experience.
