Posting # 2026-SE-01HVSE
Position: Senior Electrical Engineer – High Voltage Substations
Position Type: Full-time, permanent
Location: Mississauga, Ontario
Salary Range: $120,000 – $130,000 per year, plus benefits
About The Opportunity
Ontario’s grid is being rebuilt – new transmission and distribution stations, renewable and storage interconnections, and growing electrification and data-centre loads. At RCMT Energy Services, you’ll be the technical lead on the high voltage substations that make it happen, for utility, industrial, commercial and institutional clients.
This role is for an experienced substation engineer who enjoys owning the design end to end – setting the technical direction, solving the hard problems, and developing the engineers and designers around them.
What You’ll Do
- Lead physical substation design (AIS/GIS): layouts, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways and associated bills of materials.
- Perform and review engineering studies: grounding, lightning protection, battery and charger sizing, transformer capacity rating, underground cable ampacity, bus stress/mechanical loading, voltage drop and cable sizing, and insulation coordination.
- Prepare equipment technical specifications and support procurement and bid evaluation.
- Plan, monitor and control engineering scope, schedule and budget on your projects.
- Perform quality reviews of engineering deliverables.
- Mentor engineers and designers and guide the resolution of technical challenges.
- Serve as a technical point of contact for clients, vendors and contractors, including site visits to gather field data.
- Lead coordination with mechanical, civil/structural and architectural disciplines.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering.
- 8+ years of experience in the engineering and design of high voltage substations.
- Strong proficiency with engineering analysis software such as CDEGS, ETAP or similar.
- Working knowledge of CADD tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit) sufficient to guide and review design drawings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the confidence to work directly with clients, equipment vendors and construction contractors.
- Sound judgment and initiative in managing multiple projects and priorities.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- P.Eng. licence with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or licensed in another jurisdiction and eligible for PEO licensure.
- Testing, commissioning or start-up experience.
- Experience with Ontario utility standards and connection requirements.
- Inter-disciplinary engineering experience.
- Working knowledge of Primavera P6.
Don’t meet every point above? If you have most of these qualifications, we encourage you to apply. RCMT is willing to provide training for some of the requirements of this role.
What We Offer
- Salary range of $120,000 – $130,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
- Health, Dental and Vision plans, plus a well-being program.
- Technical leadership on a variety of utility, industrial, commercial and institutional projects.
- Support for professional development, including PEO licensing fees.
- A clear path toward Lead Engineer and Engineering Manager roles.
